Instead of having an opponent agree to a game in the lobby, a lot of other competitive programs have a matchmaking service that takes your rating, has you look for a game, then finds another player that's around your skill level looking for the same sort of game.
True, MP isn't active enough to warrant this feature being added, but it could come with a number of search criteria like having the songs be within a certain range/genre, opponents within a certain number of levels, and so on. This would also help eliminate the passworded rooms and the shenanigans that that invites. So if you're a level 8 looking to play someone within 4 levels of you, you can enter that in, hit Find Game and if someone else level 4-12 is looking for a game that can have a level 8, boom, room created, you auto-join, and the two of you start talking turkey. You could also challenge specific people as current, though EXP might or might not change hands in order to avoid feeding.
