Alright, so there are two main types of players on FFR.

Those that play upscroll (or default scroll), and those that play downscroll (reverse scroll).

From near-starting FFR, I've been able to read downscroll better, and since I've been playing on it since starting, I can't play upscroll whatsoever. I doubt I could even pass some 11's on it, my reading is so bad- forget FC's or AAA's

However, I've heard people touting that upscroll is the original way the game is meant to be played, and even heard someone go so far as to say downscroll is a bad playing style.

What's your opinion on the different scrolls- which one do you use?
Do you think one scroll is more fun to watch than the other?
Does one take more skill to read?
How long do you think it would take a person who has played exclusively on one scroll to learn to play at the same level on the other scroll? Would it be like re-learning how to read all over again?

Who ever said it was a bad play style was an idiot

If you can read down better then do it. If you like up better than do it. There's only like one bad way to play ffr: Less than three fingers.

Technically, there is no way the game is "meant" to be played. Giving options eliminates a "true" way to play it. You also can't really say that it's a bad play style either. That's like saying playing 2X or 1.5X speedmod is bad.

I personally use the default upscroll. I just happened to start out with it, and I just stuck with it. Personally, I think watching a scroll that I'm not very good at being played well is hilarious, in that I find it ludicrous that the person can read it. And no, it technically does not take more skill. Just like how you started with downscroll, you could've started with scroll-left and be right where you are now. It all depends on how much you work with one.

I would think it wouldn't take nearly as long as it took them the first time, since it's really just like changing speedmods: you get used to it eventually. Not quite re-learning to read, but learning to read things differently.

They're equally good. You learn and breathe whichever one you're exposed to first (ddr? upscroll. rock band? downscroll.)

Use whichever you're most comfortable with, I personally use up.
It doesn't neccesarily take more skill to read one or the other.
It would probably take a few months for someone who has been playing for a really long time to learn to read the opposite scroll direction.

I guess you could say it all depends on the way your mind works. I personally use reverse scroll simply because it's easier for me to read. It's a matter of personal preference. I wouldn't necessarily say reading up scroll makes you a more "skilled" player, just means you're able to read that way. This is just a guess but I bet people that read the notes scrolling up probably have a hard time reading them while going down and the other way around. I call bullshit on the person/people that said reverse is the "bad" way.

I can read downscroll just fine for FC'ing purposes.

I just cant time with it.

I would like to see some top tier down scroll players try playing with up scroll heh

iironiic is the best downscroller i have seen, but I bet theres more people out there.

I personally use downscroll myself, just feels more natural I guess, this is the first and only rhythm game I've ever played ;p

I can read both scrolls pretty easily, but I prefer using the upscroll because I played itg all my life

Actually, one of the best players I think there has ever been at down scroll is Long Gone. No you aren't bad for using downscroll.
