    Calling all players for help!

    Stargroup here.

The past few months blast and I have been working on a fairly large project. We are currently trying to come up with an algorithm that will automatically process a chart and be able to come up with an approximate difficulty.

At the moment we only have the first part of the algorithm done, but we need the community's help to test and comment on whether or not it's any good or accurate enough.

Even though the charts listed here are anywhere from super easy to medium difficulty, any help from all kinds of players would be appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

Re: Calling all players for help!

It's preferable to have new solo players or those who play easier files, according to the sampling of songs stargroup has provided for his algorithm.

Therefore, it'd really help if anyone, especially those unfamiliar with solo, to try it out and help refine the new difficulty system determined by stargroup's algorithm.

I'm not good in solo, I started like a couple of weeks ago, does that count?

Good luck, you could probably write a master's thesis on robustly predicting the difficulty of a rhythm game chart

Check out his link, and please provide feedback on the new method of determine difficulty ratings. Is the algorithm accurate? Stargroup notes that "As long as you can score very well on a difficulty x, you should be able to at least pass anything of difficulty x+5 or lower" so see if that is true. If you scored great on one song, can you easily pass a song five difficulties higher than the one you've just played?

I would give feedback myself, but I play higher-level solo files, and it's hard for me to tell the difference for easier files. Apparently, Stargroup notes that the best way to test the algorhithm is to apply it to the easier songs in the KBO engine, which I've listed. That's why we want some new players to see how much they can explore the easier solo files.

I asked for the list because I couldn't access it from the link. It was asking me to register, and I was too lazy.

I'll jump right on it, thanks

So I started with the first song on the list and went up in difficulties by five until I stopped doing well.

From my experience, the algorithm works perfectly, but I figured I'd include the data too. For reference, I considered a grade less than a C to be a failure. Previous experience with solo: Maybe three song plays.

                  Song | Flawless/Excellent/etc | hold ok/hold miss | combo/score | Grade | percentage

                  Ice Frontier | 56/30/24/0/0/1 | 11/1 | 77/9530 | A- | 84%
                  Brightone | 90/49/16/0/0/4 | 12/1 | 68/13780 | A- | 85.2%
                  Chaoz Airflow | 124/78/37/3/2/10 | 7/0 | 79/19160 | B- | 75%
                  Blue Horizon | 147/100/42/7/12/44 | 10/1 | 42/14620 | E | 41.2%

As soon as I played Chaoz Airflow, it was starting to become extremely apparent that I didn't have full confidence in where my fingers were on the keyboard (especially my middle fingers) as it related to how it translated to circles on screen.

Blue Horizon was a shitshow. Honestly, the algorithm works a little more awesomely than I'd like. I, as expected, suck at soloing.

Can someone else who isn't as shitty help these guys out?

I tried to come up with an algorhythm months ago, but I gave up. Yeah, basically notes per second (maybe taps per second).

This just went beyond what I hoped for.

Thanks a ton, the data here could not be more helpful.

If you ever do register on KBO though, hit me up with a PM from FFR here so I can add points to your account.

I took up solo a little bit when FFR was down and even made a KBO account. I played some of the songs and these are my results.

                            Song (Score) [comments]

Ice Frontier (35-2-1-0-1) [I hit a few wrong buttons. I guess ignore this >_<]
                            Blue Horizon (50-0-0-0-0)
                            Catalyst (41-0-0-0-0)
Brightone (28-0-0-0-1) [Hit another wrong button ]
Cross Time (65-1-0-0-0) [Great was in a stupid spot]
Fall of Fall ~ Autumnal Waterfall (63-2-0-0-1) [Hit another wrong button =/]
                            Glaciate (46-0-0-0-0)
Chaoz Airflow (30-2-0-0-0) [Greats were also in a stupid spot]
Kataomoi Hakopairaru (83-6-2-0-1) [This was legitimately bad. Parts of this chart are hard to read =/]
                            Versatile (28-0-0-0-0) [Easy]
Atop the World (55-7-0-0-2) [I've never understood how people can guess when to hit strangely colored notes]
Battle Without Honor Or Humanity (34-1-0-0-0) [There is a lag spike at the beginning of the chart that I can't avoid no matter how many times I retry]
Trigun Theme (44-7-0-1-3) [Also genuinely bad. I can't read the colorful parts.]
