Move straight to 1.5x with no screencut, and then move straight into 2.0x and deal with the speed increase. Even if you can't read it, after a few days, you'll get used to it.

Lots of people here are fast x.x
I started and stayed with 1.5x for a long time. Then, a month or 2 ago, I upped it to 1.6x. Just find the right speed for you and slowly increase it to your liking.

every time you change your speed mod your PA will suffer no matter what, but after you get used to it, your pa will be so much better then it ever was. You have to do bad for a little before you can improve

I started with 1x, bumped it to 1.5x, then up to 1.75x, up to 1.875x, up to 1.9x and recently went up to 2x.

It's all based on personal preferences. Regardless whether you like it or not, don't let scores like 300 clean shy you away from bumping up your speed mod. It's worth it if you are considering getting competitive scores on Very Difficult songs and higher (10+).

checklist for you:
[] Try 1.1x until comfortable (could be a day, could be a week, could be several weeks)
[] Try 1.2x until comfortable '
[] Try 1.3x until comfortable '
[] Try 1.4x until comfortable '
[] Try 1.5x until comfortable '
[] Try 1.6x until comfortable '
[] Try 1.7x until comfortable '
[] Try 1.75x until comfortable '

THEN you can compare your 1x scores to your 1.75x scores and see which are better.

I dont necessarily agree with this. For example, in order to AAA ball of malt, I had to bump it up to 2.3x to read the ending stream of up arrows. This ensured that i could smash the arrows to the beat, and see them properly as to not fall behind. In order to work my way up i had to raise my mod by .10 each time, but literally took me one playing each time from 2x on up. My accuracy got better each time.

This ensured that i could smash the arrows to the beat, and see them properly as to not fall behind. In order to work my way up i had to raise my mod by .10 each time, but literally took me one playing each time from 2x on up. My accuracy got better each time.

I don't know if it is just me but my PA suffers by like 500% each time i increase it...so i always end up going back to X1..just like i have now. I don't know if i can change XD

I used x1 for 6 years, I had tried speed mods before but I felt the same way you do now. Then, In January, I just up and switched to x1.5 and got used to it in 2 mins.

You can get used to small changes in your speedmod in a very short amount of time. Going from 1.0x to 1.5x probably won't have much of an effect, your brain will process the change within ten games or so. I just suggest not trying a drastic change right away, 1.3x or 1.5x would probably be fine, get used to that and play with it for a month or two before you move any higher, if you desire to. Optimally, you'll want to move up to at least 1.7x, the standard is actually around 1.9x right now, although it was higher a couple of years ago. Not moving up makes the game significantly more difficult, even if you use a proper screencut.

tl;dr version: Try 1.5x for a day and see where that takes you.

ok. that is what most people are telling me, that i should start out slow. But i have tried 1.1 or 1.5 for a few days and i just can't read it for some reason. I don't know if i am just being impatient but everyone says ill get used to it in like 10 games and i can't even begin to read it after like 50.

I personally use 1.5X right now, and it took me a few moths to get used to it. It can be extremely frustrating as it is now, but when you finally get the hang of it, you'll get this immense feeling of relief and joy. Trust me.
