but seriously, I don't know why so many of you despise certain charts. I like the variety and I never truly understood how a song could be stepped wrong without being offsync/completely offlayered.

Stepping is very complicated. Its not just notes to a song its about visual/pseudo-physical representation of the songs energies and emotions.

Think of stepchatts as interprative dances

I know stepcharts relay the song's emotion but how WRONG can a person's interpretation of a song be? I just never understood how people can be so critical of a file without letting unjust bias interfere. Not even talking about index/prehistoric/sharpnel files. I believe if someone hates a file so much they're indirectly expressing hate towards the song itself more. /rant

Those songs just take practice. But yeah, Strangeprogram is an index friendly FMO.

strangeprogram is only index friendly if your on cocaine or 2 shots of 5 hour energy.....other than that.....typical spread chart....

Interpretation is like any form of art. It's both subjective as well as objective. While some interpretations might not appeal to all people, there are some interpretations you can say are just flat out bad in almost every respect.

Not everyone likes bacon ice cream, but you can't say that it's a bad food. However, you can say that human feces is bad food. You can say that rat poison is bad food. These are extreme examples but some of the gray lines aren't as gray as you might think.

Looks like someone hasn't played a lot of hard index charts


I find that chart preferences change a lot over time, and it's often based on what you're good at or focused on. People who can't vibrate start to hate files with vibrating jacks, people who play index start to hate files that are extremely non-index-friendly, people who step artsy songs start to hate generic js files, people who are really competitive start to hate files that are awful to score on. Pretty much every serious SM/FFR player grows to hate easy DDR type charts that don't closely follow the music... and yet those are probably enjoyed by more people than a typical SM community pack

I guess the point of that is - different people (or, the same person at different times) will enjoy totally different things, so don't assume your opinion of enjoyability is objective, because it's literally impossible to make a chart everyone will like.
