Need some tips

I have been playing for almost 7 years now, off and on, but still having difficulty getting AAA. What is everyone key layout and speed. I feel like I could be doing something better, or if not I just don't have the reaction time apparently. uhg lol

My set up is L:g D:h U:u R:k with 1.6 or 1.5

I tried putting my fingers the way you do, Tux, and the first thing that struck me was that your hands are very close together compared to more popular key maps, which can lead to your fingers interfering with each other during fast patterns. The way to go these days seems to be for two-handed players to have their hands as far apart as they can manage. From left to right, ASKL and QWOP are two of the setups that are trending at the moment, but for you I'd suggest migrating the finger on your up arrow to I in the case of the former. On the other hand, if you play "index" and basically use a refined hunt and peck method, you want to have your keys as close together as feasible so your hands don't move around as much, leading to you being able to hit faster patterns.

As for the speedmod of choice, it boils down to a matter of personal preference, with some of the better players even tailoring their speedmod and offset value to help them deal with certain songs more effectively.

Above all, practice, practice, practice. Your "playing off and on" probably means that you're losing during the downtime what skills you managed to pick up when you were active. Keep at it.

ERKL; 2.0x speedmod. Simple and easy. Try possibly increasing your speed mod, and going with a more comfortable setup.

tg km is my set up. use four fingers. my speed mod is usually 2.

definitely feel like it is my finger placement that was problem. changed to asil, a little weird. Before, on most songs my problem was my brain gets tangled with multiple 2 arrow runs and with my fingers so close together I would just get confused.

I use zx 12 (numpad). Also play stepmania and you'll improve.

I can play any distance.
I've played zx 12 numpad
we op, as kll, dfjk
and my recent one i've been using is BN <>


It's basically WHAT you practice that counts.
If you keep practicing really easy songs, you'll NEVER get anywhere.

If you can't do 10s, do 11s. Something REALLY hard for your level, this is how I get a major skillboost and everyone goes "WTF?"


Also, think about being CONFIDENT that you can get it.
Like "I KNOW I can AAA many songs"

Use what feels comfortable for you. Not everyone is Tue same and upping your speedmod isn't always going to improve your scores. As far as setup goes just close your eyes and place you hands on the keyboard. Where your fingers land is what your setup should be

Actually, when I upped my speedmod it made me better. My reaction time is a lot faster thus forcing me to move my fingers quicker.

I use AS[], used QWOP before it. Switched it up cause my QWOP keys got a little too used up, and my right hand was getting on top of my touchpad on my laptop with OP and I didn't like that.

Also, speedmod 1.95. The speedmod helps soooooo much.
