Can someone help cure my bad lag?

About 4/5 games that I play either immediately begin with lag or they "develop" it after about 30 seconds into the game, this happens most of the time and I don't really know why.

I play on low-res and have no other windows open at all but I still get seriously the worst lag in the world when playing FFR and it is very frustrating.

The only thing that I can do is continuously restart the song until it begins with no lag... and then about 3/4ths of the time it will, like I mentioned earlier, "develop" it and then the rest of the song will be laggy.

This makes AAA'ing most songs practically impossible, the 100+ AAA's that I have are basically from the luck of the draw if I can get through the whole song without lag then I either blackflag or AAA most 7-8s or lower.

Please cure my lag so I can get better and not have to waste so much time!

PS. The lag that I speak of is so bad (when I get it, which is most of the time) I only see about 3 frames of each note so it is incredibly choppy and makes my SDG's on 9s and 10s into about 100 goods and 20 averages.

also, I do NOT have dial up! Don't say it

The lag you're experiencing is most likely caused by the new version of Flash released during FFR's downtime.

The lag is being experienced by everybody using the most recent version of Flash, and the only cures are to downgrade, use a "standalone", or wait for a fixed version from Adobe.

      If you're using Windows 7,

Right click on desktop --> Personalize --> Windows Classic

      Works wonders.

I have the same problem as you do. The only way is improve the speed is to buy a faster game card. I've tried everything possible but the lag never goes away. You might want to get your computer checked out at Best Buy but they won't give you a price quote until they figure out what's wrong. Best of luck man, we're all in the same boat.

Damn, I hope you're kidding Guru lmao.

Try Macromedia (Adobe)Flash Player 8.0 r22 (link: http://flash-samara.ru/version_eng.html ) (If you still lag, you'll probably want to try any Flash 9 or 10)

          ..with that link..

So, basically: http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/ffrndanotherway.swf or Velocity's engine: http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/...y/ffr_Wide.swf (or whatever .swf you feel like using, the hell you could even put profile chat here if you wanted.)

You will also need to log-in on FFR in IE (not Firefox or Chrome, really IE) and make sure you check "Remember me" and go in tools, internet options, security and uncheck "Protected mode" because the new engine is somehow being blocked by it.

If you're on Windows 7 like post above said put Classic view.
If you still lag try to change your colors to 16 bits. (probably more on XP or Vista)

          Optional:

          Gamebooster - http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html

That's basically killing services/process that could barely affect in-game for some reasons but it shouldn't make much difference, it's just in case you still lag.

If you're still having lag, it's probably drivers or something unrelated. >:

How do I get/use a standalone flash player? I don't really know much about flash, thanks!

Basically, you just download it, go in it, File -> Open (put the game links here like the two I mentioned). The flash player will load it and you play as usual.

I'm also using FFR keymaps: http://www.latent.demon.co.uk/old/ffr_keymap.html
because on top of letting you put inputs, it handles key sending better I believe but that may not be the case anymore.

Do you work at Best Buy or something? Their video cards suck like shit and those people don't know what they're doing.
It's better if you go to another store, preferably a real computer store with real working parts.

But yes, the standalone flash player is your best solution, preferably FP9 is better than 8.

I just downgraded from the latest flashplayer update to an earlier one. Zap! Problem gone!

Though there could be other problems.

Re: Can someone help cure my bad lag?

Best steps you can possibly take are using Gamebooster, a Standalone, closing all other unnecessary processes, and personalizing windows to stop using Aero (all mentioned above and in the sticky).

If you are using Vista, however, and a laptop (like I was) there is no way to get rid of lag completely and you will always have small spike lag. However, if you upgrade to Windows 7 all your lag will magically... vanish!!

Depends of OS, drivers, etc. FP9 lags a little here and I can't exactly explain why but FP8 was pretty much zero lag status to the point that I was pretty much jaw-dropping over how smooth the game runs and I know the opposite was also true for some people so it's pretty much test and see yourself.

I tried this. The IE part gave me trouble because there is SO MUCH option in the security stuff... i almost disabled everything ahah.
I didn't tried before with a "standard" IE but... it really works well now.

I logged into IE, downloaded Flash Player 8.0 r22, put the velocity link in it.
Try to play and... omg, i have no lags at all (it seems).

My comp is very old and like Strikingvipr i couldn't go anywhere with AAAing song (or even FC).
I'm not skilled but when you get 2goods and 5 miss... it's wtf...

Anyway, thank you for the tips, it works great for me
I'm on XP for now but will change comp' soon (and got seven).
So i'll see how it will works.
