Okay, so you can use NOTEPAD to write stepfiles? WHOA! Okay, someone has to help me out. I was reading the FAQ for DWI, and I'm guessing the programing language is the same, but how exactly is it done? Once I write the stepfiles, how then do I apply it to the song? And more importantly, how do I run and test out the song? Please enlighten me.

Oh, and another thing, if I make a stepfile to a song like, oh, let's just say for example, Linkin Park, is that legal? I mean, as long as I don't share the song or anything, I can just make one for myself, right? Thanks.

If you did the stepfile correct, then you just shove it in a folder and name it. Put it in one of your song folders and voila.

And more importantly, how do I run and test out the song?

Once you get it into the system, you can play your stepfile. If its not good, go back and fix it on the notepad.

Get Stepmania, which you should already have before making stepfiles. DWI isnt that great.

You must ask the author of the song if you can use their song. I suggest using some remixed songs here and ask, or contact nintendo/playstation to use one of their songs. To use a song thats not yours its pronounced illegal. That is why you must ask.

Or make a song for yourself using Fruity Loops or something like that. Make sure it's not too repetitive, though (although it is kind of hard to avoid when using Loopy Fruits :P)

OMG DON'T use triples and quads. They are ga_ay. And not pad friendly. And what are you doing programming your stepfile when you have SM? Just use the stepfile editor smart!
