Advice please?

I've been having trouble advancing my skills in "finger-dancing".
I've been stuck playing Very Difficult - Very Challenging level songs, Very Difficult being easy for me and Very Challenging being the very hardest I can do. I haven't really improved much in a long while.

My question to you is, what can I do to get out of this rut? Are there any... Techniques or certain songs I should be using/playing?

It all depends on what you struggle with. If you have problems with jumps, you should try Lovely Lovely Lovely (I'm an old school player, so this is the song I think of. ). If it's streams you struggle with: AAA, or {Rose} might be your answer. Rhythms? Try any of "The Games We Played" songs.

It all depends on the aspect you want to improve on.

What are you trying to do, improve PA-wise or speed-wise? (AKA get more perfects or get more combo?)

If you are going for combo, try harder songs but don't try songs too hard. For example, try songs like Divinity where you need to practice rolls. If you mash the rolls, try not to, as mashing will not improve your skill. If you need skill with one handed trills, I suggest Flight of the Bumblebee. If that is too hard, try Take Me Back. Take Me Back, although easy, is good practice for those kind of trills. Doomsayer, as well. If you just need to practice stream and runningmen, then practice Uber Rave V2 or something a little trickier, such as Classical Insanity. As for jumpstream, try Etude To A Dragon. Very good practice for that, as well as streams.

If you want to improve PA-wise, start with short, easy songs and work your way up. PA only improves if you can do patterns correctly and you know the beat to the song*.

All in all, I would suggest practicing Classical Insanity and Silence. Both are easy and fun, plus they help you with every pattern you will probably need help with. The main point is to practice though, some people take years to get good enough to AAA Master Only songs! Try screencutting and speed mods if you haven't already, and try spread (Playing using ASKL or QWOP or a "spread" style)!

*Not all songs relate to this. Quite a few are extremely offsync due to old stepfiles.

What style do you play? Spread is the most versatile style of play, and it allows you to improve quickly and easily (or so I've been told---I index).
