    Progression

Hi everybody, I have been playing for about 7 months now and have been progressing pretty well, I think. I do have a few questions though for you freaks out there that are really good . When trying to progress your skill level further, is more helpful to play songs that you can play somewhat well (10 or fewer misses) , or is it more helpful to play songs that you have much difficulty with (30 + misses , many boo's). I can't seem to make the jump from 8-9 to 10-12 very easily. I play at 1.75 speed with 2 hands. If anyone has some insight to a helpful practicing technique I would be quite grateful. Thanks.

It's good to play songs you do well on because then you can work on accuracy and precision. You should also play harder songs so you can get used to certain patterns.

      Re: Progression

are you trying to FC or PA? if you're trying to FC, i'd say to keep playing different songs that are very difficult for you to combo. i say many different songs... that way you don't get frustrated. also, you won't build up bad muscle memory that will hurt you later. after doing a lot of that, drop down to the ones that you can almost FC but not quite, and you'll likely find them a lot easier.

I'm just trying to FC for the time being, my PA is very poor, usually getting 1 or 2 goods on fairly easy songs.

You should play songs about as hard as you can physically do without mashing any. That's what I always did at least

I think it would be hard to get down a definite beat if you started playing music games through ffr. Personally i don't think the timing windows give a good definition to the beat of the song even though you might get a perfect. Which is why i would also suggest playing some stepmania to get a feel for marvelous accuracy and then come back to ffr and it should be much easier once you have a better sense of rhythm.

Play hard stuff to improve speed, play easy stuff to improve accuracy.

e.g. I played for maybe one or two years without getting an AAA because I was mainly playing hard stuff. When I couldn't find any more hard files, I started to play simpler ones. My MA/PA rose greatly for about a month.

Not really; since FFR's timing system is inaccurate due to the 30FPS note-rounding system it uses, playing either FFR or SM will more than likely screw you up for whichever one you're not playing.

                  Re: Progression

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have stepmania and have played a small amount, but I don't know if I have a decent pool of step files. I acquired two packs and they were both right on the money as to having songs that were within (and some beyond) my skill level. I was wondering if anybody could recommend some good packs or files for someone like me in the 8-10 range. Thanks
