I know how you could get rid of mashing, someone could program in once someone gets over 100 boos on a song they fail automatically or something... it would never get enough support though

Another thing they could do it just make it so the amount of points lost from boos get worse each time you get one

The only reason why I mash in FFR is because of the framers (putting aside if I ever get the vrofl token.) I always get so many ave-misses in EHHS for some reason when I don't mash and try to maintain a good perfect count. Mashing, really, just gets you through fast stuff. Mashing is VERY bad in stepmania (because several songs have high BPM streams that if you try to mash them you'll get too many boos and goods.)

If a file like disregard heavy was put into FFR, I guarantee lots of people would juch mash and FC it. I mash when arrow speed something exceeds my nonmashing limits.
