I don't get it.

I've been playing a ton of stepmania lately, and i'm doing pretty good for me.
I have Hayden's Epidermis, and i can get 98xx on it, but whenever i try it on ffr, it seems like i can't even keep a combo of 100. I know framers and whatnot, but is it just ffr in general?

Cloud0005, StepMania is more on-beat than FFR (unless your computer is absolute crap) because FFR is a browser-based flash game, flash lags easily.
I don't know why for some people (including myself) the skill level gap between SM and FFR is so large. For example, I'm actually pretty decent at FFR... kinda (lol), but I absolutely suck wild at SM.

I don't know why for some people (including myself) the skill level gap between SM and FFR is so large. For example, I'm actually pretty decent at FFR... kinda (lol), but I absolutely suck wild at SM.

it's the opposite for me man.
i feel like i'm really good at sm, like not godly like a lot of people that go here, but i'm only decent at ffr.

I'm about 50/50 with FFR/SM.
You probably just have to get used to FFR more?
I do feel better at SM though, so my calculations may be wrong.

SM is very different. On a song like Epidermis that has quite a few framers if you get use to hitting later in the timing window for perfects you can average miss alot easier

yeah, in the original post i stated this, but even where there are not framers, i manage to randomly lose my combo.

and it's not lag.

Probley because you play SM a lot more than FFR.
I barley play SM at ALL anymore.
I just played today for the first time in about a month and I can barley get a 300+ combo on files that would be VCish yet I can get about a 600 combo to a FC on most VC songs on FFR.
Play FFR more and I'm sure you will do better.

I play SM more often, and I notice that my overall ffr skills have declined
though if i am having a good try at a song, i tend to not screw up.

If you only play SM and don't practice at all at FFR you might not do as good. Also, ironic as it may seem, depending on what your Judge is on SM, FFR can be almost too easy for you, thus, making you screw up.

Care to give us some proof? and plus not ALL SM songs are offbeat there are some that are absolutely wonderful.
