How do you get AAAs?

On easy songs I usually zone out when I'm playing. Now that works perfect on a hard song, but when I zone out on an easy song, I tend to eventually get a good. To avoid this, sometimes I watch every arrow intently to its receptor. In that case, I get antsy and hit an arrow too early.

I have to get "in my zone" in order to get an AAA. Some days I can AAA just about every song I play, others I can't even SDG easy songs.

Is there a technique, or do you just get better and start to pick up on it?

There's no certain technique you can use to AAA things.

Personally, I just started with the for beginners songs and worked my way up.

You will gain and train your PA as you go.

Just try to keep timing.
I stomp my right foot or tap the side of my keyboard as I play to keep the timing.

I find it a lot harder to AAA easy stuff than to AAA Challenging/Very Challenging.

what you doing wrong is hitting the arrows in the receptors.

the timing windows go like this MAGPPPGGM
miss/average/perfect/perfect/perfect/good/good/miss

the Perfect window in the receptor, its the last one (MAGPPPGGM)

try to hit a tiny bit before the receptor, each timing window is 1/30 of a second btw.

Are you using a screen cut at all?
OR speed mod + screencut/no screencut?
It can all affect your PA especially if you screencut
above the green "perfect" that flashes each arrow

Just test out options and figure out which one is right for you

I try not to actually try to get a AAA. As soon as I do, I never get it. I only try to keep my PA going for as long as possible. I just continually push for better PA when I play, especially in C/VC songs.

I find that if the song doesn't challenge me, I have worse PA. If it's too easy, you begin to not give 100% because you don't need it.

Example: Just yesterday, I got 8-0-0-0 on Coat Czech, and 8-2-0-0 on Uber Rave V2. Neither of those times did I try to AAA. When I tried to AAA something, I ended up not even FC'ing.

lol, I may not be that good of a player but When amping up the speed mod I used to play 1.25 now I do 1.5 Your PA gets alot better,
Can't remeber what song but with 1.25 i got 45-0-0-0 with 1.5 i got 15-0-0-0

I use autofail, but not at first. The first thing i always do is play through the song once and take notes when im done. For example, ill write how many notes there are, where there is a 2 framer, or maybe where there is a particularly hard trill so that I am prepared. Then when I feel prepared, I turn on autofail and go for the AAA.

Also, I let the rythem help me, but I find that you cant depend on it, or you will lose focus and fail. The best for me is to arrow-watch enough that i dont fall asleep at the switch, but let the rythem guide me.

i played stepmania alot so i started off on challenging and the songs difficult and below were easy to AAA. speed mods work well but thats about it. try not to listen to the music cause most ffr songs dont go with the beat too well.

Don't pay too much attention, just enough to PA. I personally AAA best when I'm zoned out, yet I'm still nodding my head to the music.

Literally, I'm not even paying attention to the arrows and I can nearly AAA EHHS, yet when I focus, I cannot PA it to save my life. For you, focusing too hard may be an issue as well, as it is for me.

Keeping a steady rhythm as mentioned above may help, as well. Simply tapping your foot, vibrating your knee or nodding your head might be a good tactic to help you stay in beat.

That's usually when I'm at my best.


To everyone else, I used to screencut, but now I play on 1.75x. I have been for a while.

I do actually hit before the receptor, now that I think about it. I'm more likely to get an early good than a late one.

Thanks everyone for your help. I don't have too much trouble AAAing songs, but I need like 4 AAAs to move 2 grades up in Engler's FFR School, so I thought it would be a good idea to make this thread. Feel free to contribute if you haven't already.
