    Screencutting

I have a few questions for those of you who still screencut.

What are the pros and cons of screencutting?

Is it worth it, now that there are speed mods?

How long should I try it for in order to determine for myself if it helps me or not (How long does it take to get used to it?)

Any opinions and thoughts would be helpful, thanks. But please don't come in here posting about how much it sucks if you haven't tried it for longer than a few days.

    Pros: everything
    Cons: nothing.

But seriously, if you haven't found the exact speed you're looking for, try to find a mod instead of screencutting. Generally, people start with a low speedmod (1.25x), and raise it from there.

The only real pro of screencutting (on 1x) is that you avoid average misses a LOT more. The cons are that it's harder to read clusters (like in EHHS and Pants), and you can't see your PA.

I'd say, though, that if you're gonna try screencutting out, don't give up after a couple games. It'll take at least a couple days if not more to get completely used to it.

(btw when you say 'screencutting', I'm automatically assuming you mean 1x.)

As I read other threads, I realize the proper name is "screenshrinking." And, I guess I should have specified I'm trying it with a 1.50x speed mod.

Oh, well from 1.50x, screencutting plays a role in merely making the arrows go slightly faster than they actually are (that is to say, making your speedmods 1.51-1.74, I guess--depending on how much you screencut). Just screencut to however much makes you think is comfortable.

I still play 1x screencut but the faster speedmod you use the less screencutting becomes an issue.

For example I play Stepmania full screen at C680 but I massivly screencut playing FFR at 1x.

It really all depends on how you want to play. Darkshark, for instance, screencuts hugely and plays x1 (and he's amazing).

              Re: Screencutting

There are two differences with 1x screencut vs. speedmods:

              1) With speedmods, you can see your PA. Unless you're a reverse player and then it doesn't matter.

              2) The higher the speedmod you use, the larger the avmiss frame appears, meaning you have to hit when the arrows are comparatively far away from the targets. With screencutting, this isn't an issue, as the avmiss frames are the same no matter where you screencut.

I use either 2x or 1x screencut, pretty much I only use screencut on songs with backgrounds (because I can't read them with 2x on). It's good to get used to both, but there really is no "better" way to do things.

Basically, what dore said. But I use screen cut, and no speed mods. I'm just used to screen cutting though.
