Re: Hacked
The passwords are encrypted one-way -- you being hacked is doubtful. Don't allow anyone onto your account or give out your password (or use a common password you use for other sites that someone else happens to know). If someone is keylogging you, use a virus program to check for it. Other than that, be more careful.Comment

Re: Hacked
Are you hard of hearing? I said I didn't. I don't tell ANYBODY about my information on here, or anywhere. And what do you mean "be more careful"? I can't just start over, it's taken me more than a year, to get my rank where it was, all my posts, reputation, etc., etc., I don't see why an admin/mod can't just tell me what e-mail my main account is using, so I can message it.The passwords are encrypted one-way -- you being hacked is doubtful. Re: Hacked
if you didnt give it away then like rubix said you couldve been keylogged or you couldve like sns said used your account on a different computer and forgot to log off. either way its kind of your fault someone else got a hold of your account. take rubixs advice and do a virus searchLast edited by MarukuAntoni; 11-15-2007, 04:57 PM.IF I CAN CLIMB A TREE, I CAN CLIMB MT EVEREST. I am most certainly not hard of hearing, and I don't appreciate your tone towards me when I am giving you valid advice. Are you hard of hearing? I said I didn't. I don't tell ANYBODY about my information on here, or anywhere. And what do you mean "be more careful"? I can't just start over, it's taken me more than a year, to get my rank where it was, all my posts, reputation, etc., etc., I don't see why an admin/mod can't just tell me what e-mail my main account is using, so I can message it.
The passwords are encrypted one way. That means, if your password is "lolpassword," it might be. for instance, MD5'd into something like "4cc5f59be8cd6fb944cc388c9b4668bf," and nobody on this site is going to be able to go from the encryption back to your password, and that's assuming they even have access to the encrypted password. Your password is either very easy to guess, or you use the same password that you do elsewhere on a less secure medium, or you left your account logged in somewhere and someone messed with it, or someone is recording your keystrokes.
By "be more careful" I mean:
1. Make sure your password is complex enough so someone can't just bruteforce crack it. I don't even think the FFR server allows for so many tries, but there are programs out there that cycle through every letter permutation. If you know math at all you'll know that the time needed to crack a password with such an approach is insanely higher if you expand your password to be not only longer, but full of different letters and numbers. Limit words in your password when you can to guard against dictionary attacks.
2. Always log out when you're not using your account and make sure you don't have a cookie somewhere that will allow someone to gain access when you leave.
3. Scan your computer for viruses so you can be sure someone isn't keylogging you.
4. Use a password for FFR that you don't use anywhere else so nobody can possibly guess or know it from another location if they happen to know of it. Make sure it is easy to remember to you.
5. Make sure the email associated with your account is also secured under these similar conditions I've just described.
If you do those things, then you will not have account troubles.Comment
