Re: ranking up?
Yeah, that's how it goes, but overall rank means close to nothing. The important rank to care about is your FFR Average Rank, which you can access by going to your profile and clicking one of the two links in there. (One's in the black bar at the top of the page, under the five game access buttons, the other is under your AAA and FC graphical representation bars.) Or you can directly jump to it from here by clicking this link.
That list takes the average of all the ranks you've achieved on nearly all the songs in FFR. You can find your average rank at the very bottom of the page. In fact, I believe Average Rank was the #1 priority in division placement for this year's official tournament.
Again, most people look to this one rather than overall rank for determining skill. I wish they'd add it as an option to display in the official FFR signatures.

In terms of skills, the Tier points rank is much more important than your average rank. My avg rank is currently sitting at 186.5 which is much higher than great players out there(Doug31 with 900 for example), but I only have 170 tier points while Doug has 400 something. Tier Points determine your skills on some of the most difficult songs in the game.Comment

You forgot that Doug31 has like 40 songs that haven't been played yet.In terms of skills, the Tier points rank is much more important than your average rank. Re: ranking up?
I know. I talk to him on AIM and the reason they're not played is because he has no intention in playing them since Average rank has little to no meaning for him, but I'm sure if he'd AAA / play all the easier songs he could drop to like 50 or something.Comment

Re: ranking up?
Bear in mind though that the -vast- majority of the playerbase have no tier points at all. In that case, average rank is as good a secondary method of gauging performance as anything else is.Comment

Re: ranking up?
I agree with Tier ranking being more important than Average... but in fact, they both need consideration =]
Stuff grand total.

Re: ranking up?
I think that's true to a certain extent, but if your average rank is in the single digits, then the tier point system becomes sort of obsolete, doesn't it? Once your average rank is that low, it's a given that you have pretty much laid waste to just about every song in FFR and you know you're going to have the tier point. It seems like the tier points are sort of a given as your average rank improves.
Then again, tier points count token songs, and average rank doesn't.Comment

The more you play, the better you will get. The better you get, the higher your score will go up.Comment
