    Sorry

But I have to bitch again.

I know I don't post a lot here and when I do, I spend 99% of my posts bitching. And maybe it's because this game has more bugs than Florida. Or may it's because I'm a nub.

But I think I'm a pretty intelligent human being and a good player. I've AAAed 71 songs, and those include Horizon, PARANOiA, Blank Knowing, hell, I was the 4th to AAA Crystalis. I can hit a note.

I swear to god if somebody tells me there is no variable timing window in this game, I will be ****ing blown away. Because I sit here during songs like I Can See the Light and literally play 100s of games because I get 1 Good on any note. Any note, you name the note. Note 161, note 242, note 1, hell, note 34 (figure that one out). 1 Good during a jump, 1 Good during a trill (and in the middle of the trill, what happened there, I had the timing for the trill perfectly, lost the timing for a split second, and then got it back again instantly?!), 1 Good during a stream, 1 Good when theres only 1 arrow coming down.

AND keep in mind, I'd like not to be thought of a nub. I've AAAed some stuff that actual nubs strive just to FC. Blank Knowing. Out of 13000, only 250 AAAs. Yeah.

And this isn't just me. All my friends that play say it. I saw somebody with a banner that said "I'm in your FFR, giving you Goods" or something like that (a play on in your base killing your dudes, I guess). I don't think anybody's going to deny it. I'm no pro, but when I play Trip to the ****ing Moon and it takes like 20 tries to AAA it??? I'm not buying it. I'm not perfect, but I think I have enough skill to hit simple note schemes with accuracy close to Perfect.

What gives? Seriously. I just want somebody to officially confirm "yeah, the timing on this game varies because our system / server / etc. sucks and it's not just you." It can't be just me, can it?

    Re: Sorry

The FFR engine is on a 30 FPS framerate. There's really no fault on the engine's behalf, except really minor lag, which isn't evident on slower songs, really. You can hit perfects in 3 out of 6 frames, goods in 2 frames, and averages in 1 frame.

It's likely that because the songs are easier, you lose focus at some points and accidentally hit them in one of the good frames.

        Re: Sorry

I just played Zodiac over 50 times. A lucky game was over 100 combo before getting a good. Lucky. Usually I'd hit about 40. Sometimes I'd hit ****ing 9. But Zodiac is not an easy song so I know I'm not losing focus and I know it's perfectly synched, I'm staring dead at the screen, it's quiet, I mute the sound, I unmute the sound.....

And yet I can AAA Ball of Malt. Hahaha. This is a ****ing joke.

yeah, i've often thought myself that there is something that effects the timing window on this game. because on some days, i'm a god. i slay FFR. Goods? GTFO. other days, a AAA is about as realistic as Jenna Jameson's tits - while they're real (in the sense that they exist), i will never be able to touch them. the metaphor follows suit...while i know the AAA exists, i just can't get it, and it usually places me in an implacable rage, because i want that damn AAA.

            Re: Sorry

While I agree that there is a varibale timing window which may offset the sync of a song by one frame but this seems to be more of a problem on your side. Either a slow response keyboard or something like that. Or it could be as simple as losing focus duing a song.

In time it's easier to PFC streams and such because they have a constant note stream but it's easy to stay focused and not hit an arrow on time beacuse you're waiting for the arrow to come up.

              Re: Sorry

              Here's my input on this:

I use a wireless keyboard, so I lag slightly on harder jacks and such which will usually end up making me av/miss, and also it wont always give a perfect every time I should be getting one (heck, I know I should, I've played enough games and I'm ranked high enough to know this). My theory onto why higher ranked players (such as smitty) can always AAA songs, is because their unconsious hand behaviour has risen much higher than the average player.

Think about it this way: BPM controls PA. See, Vertex Beta only has up to 16th notes, but it's based at such a high BPM, not even I can hit the notes on key every time. Sky Dive also uses only up to 16th notes but I can pretty much AAA that within a few tries. I think it takes at least 10,000+ full games of playing on FFR/SM combind to really get the feel down for a major portion of not only arrow styles, but also arrow speeds and how fast your fingers will unconsiously move to those speeds. Practice IS the only thing that will help improve a person's PA.

Only other reasons that may exist to ruin a person's PA that I know of existing, would be a. Wireless keyboard b. Crappy computer tower or c. Crappy internet connection, and the internet connection would only affect you if you're playing on MP.
              - Guns don't kill people, Lag kills people.

My PA > Yours, even though I use a wireless keyboard.

                Re: Sorry

the timing window is not variable. because it's on 30FPS, songs that aren't at an exact correct bpm (like 90 or 180 are always going to be the same spacing apart) will have some notes at [for example] 5 frames away while others are 6. the timing window is always early. you have the exact correct frame and 2 earlier frames to hit a perfect. 1 frame earlier is a good, 1 frame earlier than that is an average. if you hit 1 frame late you get a good... 2 frames late is also a good. that's the entire timing window.

so bitch all you want, it isn't going to do any good with 2nd style. 3rd style will be fixed, at a minimum to some degree.

in the mean time, clearly many many people don't see it to be as big of a problem as you do, as there are tons of people with much harder AAAs. but, granted, there are that seem to have some difficulty with it still. i'm guessing you're hitting late more often than early, which is why you get the goods. if you were hitting early, you likely wouldn't have that same variance, as you'd have the extra 2 frames of perfects to cushion you.
