    Argh.

    I've had enough of this.
My computer has been like this for the past several years, and I can't take it anymore.
In almost every program I use, my computer has been "skipping" frames every few minutes. This problem would obviously affect how I play FFR and Stepmania, as the notes in those frames may be skipped entirely. Sometimes the skip is less major, and affects the timing of the note I hit. I can only AAA/FC a song if I can time this skip well, or as sometimes, "get lucky."

I have tried everything I can think of. That includes getting many spyware/adware removers and virus/trojan scanners, defragmenting my hard drives, setting applications to a higher priority, re-installing Windows XP, and many more. Nothing seems to have worked at all.

So... does anyone know anything I might be able to do? =(

Yeah, pretty much what freakysnots said. If it's been happening for years, and you've done everything you said, you probably have a fairly old computer or a defective piece of hardware. Might even be the monitor, since I recently had a problem where a DVI port on my monitor burned out and caused a bunch of screen flicker. I had to get it replaced.

Upgrade the computer and it should fix the problem, but just be careful of what you buy. Some brands are better than others when it comes to reliability and customer service.

The computer is about 3 and a half years old. It has 1 gig of RAM, and I'm using a RADEON X300 video card.

I'm not sure on the time the problem started, but I know it's been a while, at least a year. But I do suppose a defective piece of hardware could be the problem.
        I'll look further into that.

New computer is always an option, it's just that I can't afford one.
By the way, not only does it skip frames, but the audio part of it also seems to skip over to when it returns to normal. So I'm assuming it's not a monitor issue.
