first of all, he had FAR less skill when the tournament started. skill tokens weren't even around when the tournament started, so i don't see how that's relevant. secondly, you can have "tons of skill tokens," but that has much more to do with the battle between will power and laziness than it does with skill. a person can get 60 tokens and still not be that good, since 20 of them are too hard to get for that person, or something.

and as said before, overall means nothing. do you think lump should have been in expert last time, since he was top 10 overall? no, that wouldn't be fair, since he would have gotten knocked out immediately in such a division.

and i'm looking forward to the 3rd tournament (and actually playing FFR again)

generally, the people who win beginner are people who haven't played the game much at all when the tournament starts. the tournament then gets them excited and involved with the game, so they gain skill. then, over the 10 weeks of the tournament (yes, they last about 2 1/2 months if you make it to the finals), they get better and better and better. usually similar with intermediate, only they had to have a bit of skill to start, but then got lots lots better at the end.

even advanced is usually won by someone who is really really good, but just doesn't play super hardcore. because if they did, they'd have gotten into expert.

so, basically, the tournaments are almost always skewed towards those who have underachieved before the tournament starts. but, isn't that always the case in handicapped tournaments, regardless of sport? and yes, this is handicapped, since the this doesn't happen in expert... just the 3 "lesser" divisions.

1. tournament signups will start TOMORROW. i will make a thread and news post about it
2. Sprite- will be running it, not me. I'll be around to assist, aid, and give advice... as well as make any final decisions on things that are important enough to need my input. Sprite will handle the day-to-day stuff, the posts, deciding who is in what division, what songs will be played, handling results, etc etc etc. I'll be playing.
3. prizes will be sweet. and i guarantee to deliver on them, even if i have to acquire and ship them to the winners myself.

based on your levelrank, i'd guess intermediate. but, really, it depends on how many people we get, what their distribution of skills are.... clearly, beginner will have the most users, with it getting less and less as you go up to expert, which will likely only have 32 or so at the most. but, i'd guess intermediate.

last tournament we had over 1000 people sign up. i'm guessing we'll have a similar number this time. and at least half the signups will be beginner. 500 or so. basically, if you have a single tier point, you'll be at least intermediate.

so we'll be looking at tier point lists for each person in addition to their levelrank.php should give us a better ability to judge skill. will know number of AAAs, tier points, average rank, etc etc.

actually, i'm going to ask LD to see if he can whip up a seperate page that'll make life even easier... something that'll display tier points, AAAs, average rank, overall rank, and top10 scores that aren't AAAs. then if we need to examine further, we can go straight into levelrank or tier point list.

it'll be in ffr events. as that IS the place for tournaments... official ones. and this is an ffr event.

if not there, then the tournaments subforum. brag board is 3rd on that list of places to have it. the other 2 forums just didn't exist yet last tournament.

I see. And, when will it start? And will there be an announcement on the FFR main page about the tournament? Because I don't remember seeing one around the beginning of the 2nd one, unless the 2nd one started before I joined FFR.
