Could someone explain me what avmisses means? I've been hearing a lot about it lately and I'm not sure what people mean, thanks.

Re: Avmisses
Okay, much like in CT? The thing is for a skill token it says you need two average-misses on Improvisation et Chien, or does it mean two averages and two misses ?Comment

See "4-framer". It's like a glitch that has to do with FFR's running on 30 frames/second and its difficulty with reading jacks.
EDIT: For the Improv req, I think as long as you have the same number of averages, misses, and boos (with 2 or more of each), you should get the token. The easiest way to get all three at once is to hit late on arrows that are close together, and then do the same thing again.Last edited by Popmeister; 08-26-2007, 03:46 AM.

Re: Avmisses
Ever play a song and notice you get a completely random miss? Or how you have to hit jacks early to avoid missing them?
Good examples are Be Princess and Sympathiser.
In Be Princess, you get a miss sometimes where there's a jump and then an arrow immediately below the jump. The arrows arn't overlapping, so it isn't really a 'jack', but these are what's called 8-framers. There are 8 frames inbetween the two arrows.
When the arrows actually overlap, they can be called 4-framers, this is what jacks are. Although 2 framers, jacks that are even closer together, can also be found in the game in some places (Crowdpleaser?)
So, in 2-framers, 4-framers, and 8-framers you can get random misses on, even though you hit the arrow. And that's what an AVmiss is.
I think the term 'framers' doesn't have to do with Stepmania or any of that, but rather has to do with how flash animations operate, because they operate in frames.
And finally, I don't think you'll notice AVmisses untill you become good enough to get decent PA on challenging/very challenging songs.Comment

Re: Avmisses
wtf stopped reading there
The first part to understanding an avmiss is that you must realize that the second arrow takes precedence over the first arrow in the FFR engine. FFR runs on 30 frames per second, so one frame is 1/30s or .033s, which is rather wide for a music game.
Now, the judgement window goes as such: [a][g][p][p][p][g][weird stuff]. I'll ignore that last frame in the next part.
Now, an avmiss occurs when you hit an arrow inside its timing window but also in another arrow's timing window, you get an average for the second arrow and the first arrow gets completely ignored, thus giving you a miss. To visualize:
[a][g][p][p][p][g]
................[a][g][p][p][p][g]
This is what a 4-framer looks like. If you were to try to hit the first arrow on the red frame (the frame that the arrow actually appears onscreen), then the game will ignore the first arrow and give you the average for the second arrow, while the first arrow scrolls off the screen as a miss.Comment

Re: Avmisses
Thanks a lot dore, correct me if I'm wrong. So two goods is the max in 100 bar blackout because of this...
[a][g][p][p][p][g]
........[a][g][p][p][p][g]
The best is a good because if I go into its perfect range, the game reacts to the new frame, which would be an average, and completely misses the first one. So you hit the good, and then you're good to quickly hit the perfect zone of the 2nd one. I believe this example would be a 4-framer right? Thanks a lot!
Those little pictures are simple, but effective.Last edited by FrenzyMidget; 08-26-2007, 11:20 AM.Comment

Yeah, that's right, except thats a 2-framer (two frames from the start of the first note to the start of the second note). Thanks a lot dore, correct me if I'm wrong. So two goods is the max in 100 bar blackout because of this...
