Why combo scoring?

It bugs me when I get a really good PA, but I lose a MP game because I didn't combo it as well as the other guy. Very very rarely does a better PA beat out a better combo.

In addition, combo scoring is the only reason mashing is worth doing, other than to hear the whole song (Which you can do on the song's stat site anyway).

Why do we have it?

They say it's unique, but I've played other stuff with combo-based scoring. Don't expect it to change, as that would totally change the game. And I've won tons of times when my opponent had a higher combo.

It's possible enough to happen to a good number of people, but more times than not, better combo will beat out a PA.

You guys want to change everything until FFR is SM. It shouldn't be that way, I want FFR to be something different. Now, I'd prefer it if it were based on PA for now, but combo will be fine with me once jack syndrome is fixed.

Edit: And Phoenix, I only did that because I noticed Alucard already had the title, even though my song was added a few days before his.

It doesn't have to be sm, but it's pretty fair to say combo scoring achieves nothing. It's not even necessarily making you miss less or combo the most in the end anyway, as it's only concerened with your maximum combo...and it puts almost no weight on anything else unless you FC the song.

If you want to emphasize combo, a more practical method would be to give a decent sized deducation for missing. This way missing will drop your score but it won't necessarily ruin your run. And it would also be the same anywhere, which would fix the horrible flaw in combo scoring where missing in the middle of the song is the worst place. For example, a score of 100-0-0-1 with a 50 combo would lose to a score of 100-0-0-1 with a combo of 90 even though they're the exact same, and this is obviously unjust.

It just doesn't really make much sense. O2jam and pump it up use the same system and it's pretty silly, ESPECIALLY when you have an online multiplayer mode. I don't know, to me it would seem the most logical scoring system would simply be to assign a score value to each timing window o_O for example, perf = 200 pt, good=100, av=0, miss=-1000, boo=-200 or something like that

Combo scoring isn't going to change in R1 but hopefully it changes in r3 or whatever ;o

But r1 will become r3 so it would have to change in r1 to be different in r3 so it's probably not going to change. It would be cool to have PA rooms in MP where the better PA won or something though, or even a second high score list for best PA.
