    Old keyboards VS. New keyboards

I'm trying to adjust to spread, but my keyboard's keys are very heavy (except the arrow keys). I've had my keyboard for about 4 1/2 - 5 years. So it is definitely an old keyboard. In your experience, is it easier to play FFR with an older keyboard or a newer keyboard? If it's a newer keyboard, did it have to be broken in before you could play FFR well on it?

Also, do you find it's easier to play with soft keys or with hard keys?

    Depends on the keyboard.

At home I play on my Saitek and I do great. At school i'll play on some 10 year old keyboard that came with a Windows 98 computer and do just as well. On the other hand I have a Logitech G15 and I can't do crap on it.

So new or old it's all about feel.

Same with hard and soft keys as my Saitek has medium keys and the keyboards at school have rock solid hard keys. Whatever feels right for you works best.

I never broke in my keyboard. It still types the same as it did when I just got it. With the exception of all the food and dirt under the keys, haha.

In my experience it doesn't make a difference if it's an old or new keyboard.

I had my new keyboard and played on it. The keys were soft and didn't produce the results I wanted so I switched my new one with my Dad's keyboard. His produced the clack-clack that I wanted to hear and could support quads and trips. However, since it is old, when I play FFR with speed mods, the keyboards sometimes doesn't register jumps.

I think new keyboards are better just because they're new. But I think they're about the same.

Eh, I think that soft keys are easier to play with. It's just a personal preference. If it's possible, I think you should try both types and see which one is better for you.

It really just depends one how you want to play. If you're really going for speed and the song is well stepped to the beat, get a new (or old) softer keyboard.

Like what spinal_compression was saying: I don't really care if the keyboard is new or old as long as it registers the arrows precisely when i want it and that keys are soft.

Laptop KB's are better imo. It softer to hit and the keys are not raised so I don't have to move my fingers very much.
            (Too bad I don't have it anymore =[ )

I don't see the point of this thread..
A new keyboard can be worse than an old one. My 5-years-old (logitech) board is much better than the newer 2-years-old fujitsu-siemens keyboard.. I think that nothing special has happened to the keyboards during the last 5 years.
So just like spinal said - depends on the keyboard.

If you aren't already doing this, you can't say you're stuck. Plateauing doesn't really exist, if you aren't improving it means you haven't put in the effort needed to improve, or your effort has been misapplied. It's more of a problem at really high levels, but never totally concrete.

The really crappy old HP keyboards are awesome for SM and FFR. They're loud as hell, but they know how to get the job done.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll be sure to try out a keyboard with soft keys. If I like how it plays, I'll get a new one... eventually.

i like new ones. Like laptop ones and the dell keyboards that are really really quiet when you hit them. They are so easy to it, its like hitting the desk. But also the heavier ones make your fingers not cramp up and lock on you. If you get use to a heavier one you will be able to do alot better on most other keyboards and not have your fingers cramp up or lock.. Thats with i think
