    Cheating??

Do you think that using any other keys other than the arrow keys on the keyboard to play FFR is cheating??

For example: using the A S D and F keys.

I think it's cheating. Because thats what arrow games on the computer (Stepmania and FFR) were created for.

I do, because hey...you can't change where the arrows are on a DDR machine. Why should you be able to here?

No, that's called spread, and it's completely allowed. I didn't used to think it should be, but I have to now, since so many other people do, or else I could never compete with them. So, how exactly do you consider it cheating?

        long post:
FFR is not a dance simulator. the object of the game is to not dance. DDR is a dance simulator. FFR is a finger simulation of a dance simulation. the object of the game is to hit all the arrows. not using the arrow keys benefits everyone who plays spread and lets them hit more quickly with less cramped space. for this reason, i justify not using the arrow keys. FFR is more like playing a musical instrument such as the piano than it is like dancing.

edit: also, DDR places the pads in convenient locations. playing FFR like DDR is the equivalent of index. FFR keys are NOT in convenient locations, even for indexers, (arrow keys don't look like a square formation, they look like a tetris piece) which is why i would justify moving the positions via autohotkey. SM has hotkeying right within its options, so i don't see how FFR would be any different.

I use vbnm, which some people have tried to tell me is so close together it's not even spread, since my fingers are still not spread out. It's barely any different than pressing the arrow keys.

I still don't get what the difference is between "spread" and "four finger." Four finger is basically just spread, except on the arrow keys, right? But it's the same style other than that? Or not?

I don't think it's cheating. Using four fingers on the arrow keys is incredibly cramped. Also, I think that a new feature is being developed which will essentially serve the same function as AutoHotkey, so apparently the administrators don't think it's cheating either.

Im starting to think its the only way to be good.
My playing style is starting to fail me for masters only songs.

I only use the arrow keys, two hands, and i use my left pointer, my right middle, and my right ring, sometimes my right pointer.

                It just alternates.

                I don't go for AAA's.

Fc's- prolly about like 190 lmao.

                  Re: Cheating??

I beleive we should be able to use a spread because if not I could not even play. The carpletunnel in my right hand is so bad that if I play ffr with it, it becomes stiff so I have to use my middle finger in place and its almost impossible 4 finger and not spread.

I remember someone said using keys besides arrow keys is cheating, long time ago.

Considering an in-game keymapper is in the works, it's definitely not cheating. =\
