    Ideal Songs for Practicing Patterns

    Hello fellow FFR players,

I have been noticing a few of the “What songs should I play to get better at (insert pattern name here)?” threads. In response to these threads, I have decided to come up with a list. The list will suggest songs for learning and enhancing your ability to read and perform patterns.

I will include a list of patterns that are important to improving your overall FFR play, and list songs that are good for/have a lot of that pattern. The easier songs for learning the patterns will be on top, and the harder ones for practicing and challenging yourself will be on bottom.

If you wish to add to the list, make comments, or sugggest a switch in the list order, feel free to post. I would appreciate it highly. =)

    Without further ado, the list:

Pretty dern good. You should put flight of the bumblebee in for endurance. It's not long, but when I used to get hand cramps, I practiced that for a while and eventually they left me.

Re: Ideal Songs for Practicing Patterns

this list is horribly wrong.... i'm glad you took the initiative and all to attempt it... but it isn't even close to right.

uber rave v1 is 16th stream, not 8th stream... there really is no such thing as 8th stream... it's just easier stream. and things like secret zombie room, massive, burnout, fett's vette are all good examples of easier stream songs to work on.

8th note continuous jumps... world of dreams? the whole f-ing song is 8th jumps. also Victims & Martyrs and Straight to Video have a ton of 8th jumps. i guess 20031023 has that one section... so does hyper pressure.

jumpstream... dazzling soul only has a really tiny section. frozen, silence for 140bpm. faster: epic, turbulence... EHHS, Pants. slower: Maple Leaf Rag and Spinning with You.

Domani is a bad example... it has jumps and noteskin issues, plus the background. CIA Rave is the perfect stream example, uber 2 is good. Blaze and Rose are excellent examples. and then Vertex Beta and Strangeprogram. the others... ehh.... they have stream, but that isn't the focal point of the songs.

endurance is just dumb in FFR, really. play SM if you want endurance...

staircases?!? honestly.... you're missing trills, jacks, and runningmen:

trills: contra-distinction, max forever... faster songs with some trills would be like... klung kung. Splash Beats and Vertex Beta also.

jacks: 100 bar blackout, turbulence, end night... TGWP 1. beginning of Gradeus.

runningmen: klung kung, classical insanity, and uber rave v2 are all 175bpm runningmen. CI is just a lot longer of them.
          RIP

Shash: Never heard of chains before. Care to explain what those are? =/

            Tass: I was aware that I was missing a crudload, after I posted. >.<;

That's what the edit function is for.

(I'll add the rest of Shash's after distance practice.)

Re: Ideal Songs for Practicing Patterns

He was probably referring to the really long stretch of 8th notes in Uber V1.

The trills in Contra are really minitrills, IMO they aren't really good trill practice.

EDIT: Chains are a kind of pattern, typically used with 8th notes, that goes jump-tap-jump-tap and each jump leads into the next tap...like this:

              XX__
              _X__
              _XX_
              __X_
              __XX
              ___X
              X__X
              X___
              X_X_

              etc.

Wow this list is all over the place. I'm also shocked to see that Sensorium and Silence are not on Jumpstream.

I'm working on it. I knew that I missed a lot, because I don't remember the steps to every song.

                        Editing some more in.

Shash: That was going to be my first guess. I can never combo those in Aztec. XD Third most often screw up in that song, besides the Straight jumps and the 32nd? rolls.

I certainly like the idea of this list. It should be helpful for working to improve particular patterns, as you noted. I'm not sure I can help too much in creating it, except to agree with Tasselfoot on Victims and Martyrs.

Essentially retired now, but still ranked on the list of FFR's Top One Handers.

more that people haven't said already

8th note jumps- tribal revival, science genius girl
                            trills - science genius girl
                            jacks - fig leaf rag
                            jumpstream- {frozen}, that is fair
                            runningmen- {frozen}
long jacks (slow)- ball of malt

a lot of songs have 16th streams, so I don't think it's necessary to fill this category up.

I have more roll practicing songs: Hyper Pressure, Classical Insanity, and a hard but not the hardest one is Caprice.
