Hello all.
Given my massive amounts of suckyness at this game, I have attempted to find ways to try and make it easier on myself. (Up until today, i was using the arrow keys, not the # pad.. I tell ya, my hands got real cramped!)
One of my dificulties in playing lies in the fact that I can't have my # pad dircetly in front of me, as the rest of my keyboard would slide off my hiddously small computer desk. Optimal playing conditions for any game requires ones controls to be in front of them, and since FFR has yet to include a mapable commands option, well, you start to see my dilema.
However, i thought of a fix for this. Using a Logite Dual Action USB controller, i've mapped the arrow buttons to the four main buttons. Simple ^_^
This has had both it's pros and cons.
PROS: It's much easier to hit buttons in combos (like up-down-left-up-up-down-right, which normally i would get lost at or mess up on by the time i got to teh second up, depending on how close the beats were)... i don't know why, it could be the proximity of the buttons, and me being able to get my thumb over on time (note that before, i was using three fingers on my right hand, and my left middle finger to play. Reduced hand usage=plus)
A game controller is also more ergonomically shaped, so it's easier to hold and manage.
CONS:
Hitting two buttons at once, as you can imagine, has been a sour PAIN. I've had to resort to using my left hand again. This cancels out the ergonomics pro, as, of course, a corntoller is not meant to be cusped with both hands on one side of it. To circumvent this, i've tried mapping other buttons to ALSO designate up/left/etc... however, it won't work for some reason. (however, i havn't given up on remapping the controller keys, i still have a few ideas how to make it work)
Also, the buttons need to be hit harder. A simple tap on the keyboard will register, wheras i have to make sure i actuall PUSH a button DOWN when i hit it
And the biggest negative: My average score has gone DOWN. It's like learning how to play all over again, but with having the handycap of forgeting where the buttons are or something (When i saw an up/down combo, it took me a second to realize my thumb would hit both buttons withjout hitting "right", so i eitehr missed one, both, or got my other hand over in time. For some wierd reason which can only be expalined by me being a retard, this happened EVRY time.
Perhaps if i can get the controller working correctly, and with some practice, i can get my scores back up.
Comments? flames? bring them my way, and i'll try and keep you all posted on how this goes (provided anyone gives a damn =P)
