Accuracy

Ok, I've played FFR for a long time, I can finish any song, but the latest 13/12 button mashing fest. I've FC'd songs such as Tsugaru, Platypus, and Let Mom Sleep, but I've only gotten 1 AAA. I've played Trip the the Moon a good 300-400 times, yet my best AAA attempt has been 101/143, with an average of probably 30-50. I have built up my finger speed, but it seems I just don't have the accuracy needed for AAAs. Does anyone have an idea of how to improve my accuracy to match my speed? Because it seems that practice just isn't the issue here. All advice is appreciated!

Find a song (or songs) with a steady, moderate rhythm. Play that song again and again, getting used to tapping at a uniform rate (play along with the beat). That's what I did when I started out.

I'd suggest something along the lines of Life Goes On or a song of similar pace.

screen cut. and if you do already, screen cut slightly more until you find your spot. i used to cut to the bottom of the combo numbers, but now i cut above them. i improved alot.

Screen shrinking messes me up, though I keep hearing that it's great once you get used to it. I've gotten some PCs, but not a ton, and they're all on easier songs. ieatyourlvllol and concertm have some good points, I think. When you get used to keeping a steady rhythm, it should be easier to get all perfects, and hearing your taps can be useful. You might need to play around a bit to find a good tempo to practice on. I also try to use the music itself to help me, not just the arrows and their colors. Particularly for uneven rhythms, if I get used to the sound and can remember it, I try to hit the arrows based more on sound than sight. Sometimes I think too much about the arrow color to note duration/placement conversion if I'm going mainly by sight. Naturally, practice will help, but I wouldn't work on one song for too long at a time. Play it for a while, then go to other songs, then come back to it. You don't want to get too bored or frustrated at the song you're practicing, so changing it up can be good. I don't know if this helps, but good luck with it.

Screen cut, play hard Stepmania files to help you with your reading and timing, if you are on Windows XP, go into "Safe Mode" and play, I've heard that is slows your arrows, but no sound. Also, play with the left arrow key, down arrow key, and up and right on the number pad. May take awhile to get used to but it helped me a LOT.

Well, I hadn't even bothered trying to get a AAA until yesterday, and I just did it for the skill token. Some things I found useful were tapping loudly as already stated. Instead of just kind of space looking (which I find happens to me when I'm doing a really fast stream) look towards every arrow individually for a while. Try it also a couple times without the volume on and get a feel for your rythem. Also make sure your finger is perfectly in the middle of the keys when you hit, I found some of my stupid goods were because I was hitting the corner of the keys just a split second more which ruined it.

This is a good one, I find in MP that I'm fairly good at comboing but my PA is nonexistent, I guess I can't read individual notes, always "space looking".

try and pay attention as to whether you are consistently missing early, or consistently missing late... and adjust from there.

tass- i usually miss early, but then i try to hold off on the arrows and hit late...i thought it was anticipation so i shrunk my screen smaller...but it seems that i just keep letting in a few extra goods. i figure if i keep at it tho, ill be able to start AAAing. Its just frustrating to be able to FC halfway decent songs but not AAA stuff like Trip to the Moon etc..
