Just started saying "Key Invalid Please Refresh Browers to play FFR, If this problem persists please contact an admisistrator" today, but refreshing does nothing.
Just follow the message on the game. Sometimes it may take a few refreshes (if it does, let us know).
This will happen if you click on the game, go to another page, and a little while later click the Back button in your browser. It's part of a new security system being implemented to prevent cheaters and the such. So, fittingly, you can thank them. :P
(Seriously, though, we're working on the problems. Expecially with certain people who can't get the message to disappear. Patience, please. )
I got this problem the other day, too. It happened shortly after I found the two newest token songs. I don't know exactly why, and I tried a variety of things to fix it -- refresing the page, restarting the browser, clearing the cache, and rebooting the computer. It didn't work. The problem went away by itself though, so I'm OK again.
I think it could have been related to a slow internet connection. Pages were loading pretty slowly at the time I got the error, and FFR seemed to return to normal once I got back to my usual internet speeds. For reference, I'm on Windows XP Media Center Edition, and the "key invalid" message appeared in both Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox 2.0.0.1. I don't know if this helps, but I thought I'd add the info in case it may be useful.
Essentially retired now, but still ranked on the list of FFR's Top One Handers. One-Hander Skill Tokens unlocked: The V2 Token, The Patience Token, X_X1MissX_X, AAA v5, T.H.E.G.A.M.E.T.O.K.E.N Pseudo Skill Tokens unlocked: Numbers 21, 44, 33, 57, 26, 24, 47, 95
seeming how I read the replies like (what internet do you have) which is irrelivant.
I am assuming (Because i'm not an admin or synthlite) that when the game loads the php page tries to give you a unique key to connect the "server" with so they know its not being hotlinked and when it loads it checks this key whether it is valid or not and for some reason your key "changed" or it gave you an "invalid" key. Refreshing like it says will fix your problem.
Slow internet connections would trip the warning. Adjustments are constantly being made to account for this, so it's just a matter of finding a decent 'middle ground'. People with high latency connections, like satellite internet, may get this error more often then others.
