    Too much button mashing?

I was wondering if there is an "ethical" limit on how much you should button mash?

I have been passing killer songs by practically non-stop button mashing and was wondering if it is wrong? In songs like max-forever i can get upto 1000 boo's and in other songs around 2/3 minutes long i can rack up 600 boo's.

Im not just closing my eyes and hoping for the best but I am roughly working out what i should be trying to hit but I always have a hell of a lot of boo's.

I know that I can not pass a lot of songs if there were larger penalties for button mashing (Like in Stepmania). Can i please have your opinon?

meh, as long as you don't post screenies of how good you did with a score that has a load of boos in it most probably wouldn't care / know about it. As you get better at reading the notes you'll find that you have to mash less, and that you get less boos.

passing doesn't mean anything on ffr. you gain the same amount of life hitting a perfect as you lose by missing. this is much more lenient than ddr or sm.

Fair enough, I get your point because passing doesn't count then it dosen't matter whethier you button mash or not.

              Re: Too much button mashing?

Maybe passing doesn't mean much, or anything, but it's the first step for me to improving in a song. I don't intentionally mash the keys either, just pound away and hope for the best, but on streams that are fast enough, that's almost what I end up doing. I can't separate the notes well enough and move my fingers fast enough to hit them very accurately. I try, but I end up hitting a few notes and missing a few. Sometimes I hit enough to pass, sometimes I don't. Most of the time, if I have serious problems with a song, I won't play it much. I go back to working on lower level songs and trying to improve there first. (I'm not that good, so I have plenty of room for improvement, if I want to work on it.) However, I do like to play some of the harder songs now and then just to see if I can make any progress on them. Sometimes I try them just for fun to see just how difficult they are, knowing I'm going to fail really fast.

I guess if no one thinks much of passing a song, no one's really going to care if you mash or not. Like Jammer325 said, you probably wouldn't want to advertise it as a great result if you do it though. But for me, I need to pass the song and see the whole thing before I have a chance at doing even better on it, so it passing have some meaning for me. I don't advertise most of my scores though because I know they're pretty bad compared to many people here.

You sound just like the situation im in but instead of just passing I have gotten a couple of songs in the top 5000 through button mashing. I guess in time I wont have to button mash to get thoose scores. Until then I think I will button mash away

The other end of the spectrum... back in the day I got ~1400 combo on Silence with about 1400 boos. 100% pure mashing. And to this day that is my HS. And it is ranked 98th. Without mashing, the best I've done is about a 400 combo...

So, if you are highly concerned with rank, then mashing is acceptable to me. But in terms of brags... it isn't really.

You must be better than me then. I don't think any of the songs I barely pass rank that high. There could be exceptions for songs that rarely get played, I don't know. I think they're usually ranked 10000+. But yes, it seems like we're doing similar things. Hopefully eventually we'll both get good enough to get through those hard parts without msahing.

Well... to be fair, I amost entirely did it 2+ years ago. Recently I've not only not been doing it (much), I've gotten good enough to pass my old mashing scores with non-mashed scores.
