    Song average steps per second

I thought it would be interesting to try to find a more objective way of measuring how fast a song is. Might be helpful to someone, too...I certainly found it helpful anyway.

So I put together a list of the average steps per second for each song. I got this number by dividing the total number of steps in the song by the number of seconds in the song as it says in the game. The songs with ranges listed (mostly the fastest ones) are the ones that no one has AAA'd and I can't FC so I couldn't get an exact number of steps, but I got a pretty narrow range for most of them (and the range is accurate). For the ones with ranges, the actual speed is more likely to be higher in the range than lower.

So here's the list, from slowest to fastest:

It seems like a good way to rank a song's difficulty. But you must have been bored as anything to do this .

Its a good way to rate one aspect of songs, but there are many others
like the number of doubles it has, whether those steps are constant doubles or streams of singles
whether all the arrows are bunched in one 30 second part, or whether they are spread out, whether they have a big long wait at the beginning or not, etc.
It's a way of rating one aspect of the songs, and it will give a general field, but not completely accurate
      could still be used though

Heh, it's the summer, I have lots of time on my hands.

And yes, I realize this isn't picture perfect for rating difficulty, because of things like doubles, and lots of arrows bunched together or long pauses. But it's actually quite good, and it certainly helps me know which songs I shouldn't even try and which ones will be way too easy.

But in general, if you were gonna divide this list up into ten difficulty levels, I'm pretty sure you'd get very accurate difficulties for all the songs, at least compared to what we have now (look, finally I can prove that Bubbleman Stage Theme is piss easy and that Moonbeam deserves more than just "tricky".)

Yeah this means "Stream" on DDR/SM, so it's just one of the measure of the difficulty.

Actually, I noticed one flaw with your list. Nothing much though.

              FOTBB - 398bpm 8th notes = 796bpm
              Minute Waltz - ~160 24th notes = 960bpm

You have Minute Waltz as a slower song, as well o_O

Also, FOTBB should be around 13.3 per second, and Minute Waltz is 16 per second, if I calculated that correctly.

Moonbeam is only 5.03 arrows per second, not 7.63.

Spazzbite: Minute Waltz is faster, but it has a lower average because it has a lot of pauses, while FOTBB is pretty much full speed from start to finish.

Pauses don't really matter for an average, because pauses just throw everything completely off. If a stepfile waited for 6 days for arrows to come, and then had 68,000 arrows in a second, the average would be really low, and might make a newer player want to try. Sure, it's a terrible example, but it gets the point across.

Thanks, I fixed that. I knew 7.63 seemed a bit too fast...
