a note to the mods

Who are you to think that you know when a topic is to be closed. Seriously, in some case (ie a topic getting out of hand or rules being broken) editing and deleting a post is the right thing to do. That is your job, however since I've been looking at this board, I've noticed that most of the topics that get closed get closed becuase of the opinion of the moderator.

Take for instance the most recent example I encountered.

Posted by 87x in the hyrogashi pwns you thread:
"ok im doing this for yalls own good so nobody spoils it by arguing with yall... HERES TO YOUR GLORY HYRO!!"

there's no point in closing that thread. What if someone had something to add, negative or positive, now they can't. Just because the all-powerful has spoken doesn't mean that no one elses opinion matters.

a good portion of the threads here are closed. it's like the mods think they are the only opinion that matters, that after they speak no one else matters.

It's not even like it cleans up the board. These topics don't live long enough for people to read them and then when they post about it those who read the board religiously jump at the chance to point out the fact that someone doesn't pay attention. Then, because that topic has been done before, the thread is locked.

I don't go on too many boards where I can actually get a feel for how things are generally run, but even some of the more strict board, so many topics don't get locked so fast. It's just the internet, let people say what they will.

I honestly have tried to be as fair as possible in the past. I care very passionately about how moderation is handled. I have to trust that my moderators and doing the job they were told to do which is to keep post whoring down and lock threads they deemed abusive. If you have any specific examples that you would like me to look at, post links to them here in this thread and I will take a look at them and talk it over with the moderators.

It's locked because it has been done before. It's as simple as that. Let's take The Matrix for an example. The movie comes out in the United States and it is a big hit. Then it travels over seas to Europe and then to Asia over the next few years. Then one day you are talking to a kid from Indonesia and he says "Oh dude, you've got to see The Matrix." And you respond "Dude, I saw it a long ass time ago." And then some kid from Taiwan says "Dude, the Matrix is such an awesome movie...you should totally go see it" and you reply "Man, it was an awesome ass movie like 4 years ago. Now, it's all about the Pirates of the Caribbean." Then the Tawain kid's friend gets on the AIM machine and says "DUDE!!! I JUST SAW THE MATRIX MAN!!!" and you reply "DUDE!!! SO OLD!!!" and then his little brother gets on the AIM machine and says "OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG THE MATRICS!!!11 OMG OMG OMG!!!111" and you reply "OMG OMG OMG YOU ARE REALLY PISSING ME OFF!!!"

See how it works? People who do not spend enough time to browse the forums get on everyones nerves.

Also, if people are post whoring, or the conversasion has nothing to do with the thread, it is often times locked. When certain posts are edited, it's because that person did not follow the rules of the FFR FORUMS. You agreed to follow them, if you don't BAM! edit. When threads are deleted it's because the thread was a waste of memory and bandwidth.

Threads aren't locked because of arguements or varying opinions unless it gets to the point of flaming or threats to one anothers family and/or pets.

I'd also like to note that the thread that was recently locked by 87x was for a good reason. Hyro goes haywire easily.....87x was just trying to prevent future abuse to other members of the Forums. But Hryo is the king of button smashing.

hey i think if a yopic has already been up before, it should stay on for a little while; even if it is the matrix; because some people will want to talk about it, likle in your example; and those that dont want to talk about dont have to click or comment on that thread; i want to say that all the mods do a great job in general keeping assholes like me from running my mouth too long

like jewpin said its a waiste of bandwith and memory, and how mayn actually threads do you need about "the matrix"... if you type in caht in one... and naother pops up... asking the same question.. your going to give the same answer... then they're will be two different threads with the same information.... its just pointless and a waiste of space...

I didn't mean to come off sounding like I hate all the moderators, so sorry if I did, but I think that it's silly how many threads get locked here.

To whoever said that all forums are like this, they aren't. A forum I visit daily and am quite an active member of doesn't have threads getting locked or edited all the time. I suppose that since registration is a bit more controlled there it helps, but that only helps prevent people who really don't want to be there. It works incredibly well and is one of the most entertaining things for me on the internet.

I understand locking a post whore type thread, or a completely irrelevant one, or a complete flame war thread, but a lot of threads could be let slide for (what I believe is) the good of the board.

Synthlight. I don't really have time to find a lot of examples (especially since once they are locked they fall down the chain of threads), but I'm sure you know what I mean. I'm not asking for a change of moderators, meerly a loosening up in general.

87x locked that thread a bit early in my opinion. Yeah, I know that someone was going to come in at one time or another and say "OMFG! HYRO SUKCS!! ARCH PWNS HIM!!" or some other shit like that, but it hadn't happened yet.

But, I can gaurantee that it would have happened. So 87x made a good, albiet hasty decision.
