Only in the sense that if you miss the note... it doesn't play. its more motivating and more encouraging if the song only plays the notes you hit.

Re: I wish it were like guitar hero
Playing hard stuff would be shit then and you would improve much slower. Also stepping the song would be hard as hell, so
NOPE
Originally posted by ilikexdYour strengths and weaknesses may never change, but they will still get better as you do, albeit disproportionately of course. You're bad at jumpstream, so just play jumpstream files. Play them for hours. Play ones you have to struggle to SDG, and play ones hard enough to make your hands and arms burn. Then play them some more. Then, the day after the next, play them again. If you aren't already doing this, you can't say you're stuck. Plateauing doesn't really exist, if you aren't improving it means you haven't put in the effort needed to improve, or your effort has been misapplied. It's more of a problem at really high levels, but never totally concrete.Comment

Re: I wish it were like guitar hero
It would be kind of funny to be able to add and change your own custom sounds for goods/averages/boos/misses, like the guitar twang.
There's no way to make individual notes go silent when missed though because the audio for the game exists as a single file, not as a series of individual sounds as it is in Guitar Hero.Comment

I assume guitar hero probably has 2 tracks: guitar track and everything else and it seems to work like this, only muting the guitar track instead of all the audioComment

Re: I wish it were like guitar hero
You are right, I used to play/make guitar hero 2 customs back in the day (shoutout to the lid trick, playing customs with an unmodded ps2, you keep the lid open by jamming something in the slot that detects its closed, then right as the game is about to load you stop the disk from spinning and swap it with the burned custom disc).
Usually its actually 3 tracks, lead guitar, rhythm guitar and band, but yea.
FFR would be alot harder, because you can't just mute the entire song. Perhaps at a high difficulty you can when the charts are more accurate, but at lower difficulties the charts probably don't have every note of the song.
On that note, it'd be pretty sweet if hitting a good or something made the song change pitch/go out of tune lol.Last edited by Dinglesberry; 07-9-2016, 09:05 AM.Comment

Re: I wish it were like guitar hero
lol if this were a thing it'd have to be a custom part in the menu, cuz im not about to listen to all the pangs and twangs and bangs every time i screw up, which happens a lot.

Death Piano might actually sound like someone dieing at the piano this wayOriginally posted by hi19hi19dumps abstractly represent the song with arrows

@remedy:
maybe volume to 50% instead of straight up muting
or set volume to 200% if you miss for straight up memeLast edited by SKG_Scintill; 07-9-2016, 10:17 AM.

Re: I wish it were like guitar hero
Instantly reminded me of IIDX. Having the sound not play when you miss would require a huge amount of work, as every sound would require its own little .wav file. Not to mention, you probably need the musician's song stems to acquire those sounds. Splicing an mp3 up into little bits of sound would not only require a lot of effort, but it wouldn't differentiate one simultaneous sound from another. That just wouldn't happen.Comment

Re: I wish it were like guitar hero
IMO the only way to get a chart to actually sound like the music if the music comes from the notes themselves (rather than just have a background audio file like it is now) would be if the songs are like difficulty 85+, otherwise probably not enough notes.Instantly reminded me of IIDX. Also, this already exists, they are called midis. You really only need the "instruments", because at the end of the day, songs are just different instruments (synths, drums etc) with notes, layered together.Comment

Re: I wish it were like guitar hero
Lol it was kind of cool I guess, in custom songs in gh2 back in the day, everyone way too lazy to isolate the guitar and such for that so you'd have to just put the full track on guitar + band, that way it'd just play the whole song the entire time. This was key too, cause if you didn't do this it was annoying as hell when you missed and the entire song went quiet..
It definitely wasn't that cool of a feature. I'd rather have the music sound "off" or something if you get a boo or miss or something, that'd be cool and easier to implement imo.
I think adding a small noise for a good, miss, boo etc and making it customizable could be alright too, that way you could disable the judge display and still know when you get goods visually (obviously you can feeeeeel it bruh but u knawm im sayin)Comment
