Poll: Skill Token Sorting

Please answer the poll. I'm curious to see reasons for and against sorting skill tokens by difficulty instead of release date.

I'm voting for sort by unlock difficulty because new players can try to progress through them in order and have a fun way to get acclimated to the game. Token Whore can still be unlocked by unlocking the first 100 Skill Tokens.

It's visually easier to see what tokens are left to get for token whore by keeping them in release date order.
Considering how skill token works with anti-pa etc. I don't really see much logic behind the idea of sorting them by difficulty. #opinion

Edit: I think it could be interesting to have some sort of hide/show button to see which tokens are earned/unearned too?

I'd be for this if it didn't mean we had to further categorize the tokens to separate pure scoring from anti-PA (I wouldn't like how that would look)

And we'd most definitely have to do that

Yeah it would be subjective AF, but like Spontaneous Hydroxide v2 is pretty shitty for a first impression on Skill Tokens.

Here play this out of sync BNS file perfectly and you get token #1 Kappa

Doesn't necessarily have to be difficulty order for the whole boat, but some type of categorization, like perhaps segregate the anti-PA, raw scoring, gimmick, and pure PA tokens and sort those independently since they can't be compared very well amongst each other.

If you consider this a serious enough concern, there's always the possibility to give the user the ability to pick between sorting by date or difficulty? Is the extra work worth it? That's another story..

that would pretty much just be tedium, which can be turned into a community project if we care enough about it. Actual implementation of the sorting would be not so bad, but I think impossible* to flip flop in-engine since sorting isn't much of a thing in R^3 because it goes off the xml feed order iirc...

If we ever developed a different sorting method for skill tokens, I'd probably just want to re-order them within the engine by difficulty rating

the antipa tokens deserve their own spot for how many of them there are.

the tokens where you have to check your level ranks deserve their own thing to and honestly

you can't sort skill tokens by difficulty because aaa'ing things and doing funky stuff with antiskill are different things. if you try it you'll run into a minefield of bitter arguments. just don't try it

example: i got omgwtft0k3n (that thing where you do 2-4-6-8-10 12c on excite bike) when i was d1 but gammablaster couldn't do it when he was d7 and could only do it after i made a post offering him advice

example 2: is passing a hard song (which you can do without bothering to read it, just mash it) harder or easier than fc'ing a 1? they're different skillsets

example 3: that beer song has suddenly gone up a bit in difficulty this year [edit: and last] since you can't just mash fc colorful course to get it like you could last year two years ago

the only option i can see is doing it by some formula where you weight the unlock count by the number of days it's been released but that still runs into its own problems

Interesting suggestion. I voted to sort by release date, because visually similar tokens are grouped, and it's easier to tell who has unlocked the latest tokens. I'll keep my eye on this thread.

I think easiest option that would make everyone happy is to establish some sort of rating system (like stars or something) and each token can be assigned some starred difficulty between 1-10. Token unlocks related to pure scoring can be indicated by black stars whereas all other gimmicky or anti-PA type tokens are designated red stars, plus the option to sort by difficulty. That would look much better imo than creating completely separate lists for the different types.
