I didn't expect there were that much one hand players.

One hand, four fingers? That sounds really awkward. I play one hand three fingers myself.Originally posted by ScarletteI play one handed. It's not hard at all, in fact I find it easier.
Right middle = ^
Right middle = v
Right index = <
Right ring = >

Read it again, Kefit. That is one hand with three fingers. The right middle finger is used for both the up and down keys. I think that's probably the standard one handed method of playing.

Oops.
I wonder how I managed to misread that.

I'm not sure if one method is really easier than the other. I imagine whether you play with one hand or two, you can get good at it if you practice enough. I started with one hand because that's the natural way for me to use the arrow keys. It worked fine on the easier level songs. Not like I could FC them immediately or anything, but they didn't seem that difficult to play one handed. Now as I start to push up a bit, the songs are sometimes faster with denser patters, quicker rhythms and I have trouble even reading the pattern correctly to know which arrow should be hit first. The color coding does help with this, but it's not on all of the songs and it's taking me some time to get used to it after getting used to seeing all blue arrows all the time (which for me is a bit of a pain on SkellyBones, BTW). In particular, doubles throw me big time in the faster, denser patterns. I just can't read them and will only end up getting one of the arrows if I don't miss them both completely. My fingers just won't do faster doubles like that right now, especially if they're mixed into a run of singles. I've tried using two hands on some songs like this, but it's hard for me to get used to. I get my fingers confused and forget which is on which key meaning often times I do worse with two hands even though I think it could help with the speed. I end up slipping back to one hand and suffering through the songs, just trying to stay alive in the hardest parts so that I don't fail. OK, that's probably effectively mashing, but I'm not really trying to do it on purpose. I do go for the arrows, but when I can't read the pattern properly, I'm partly reading, partly guessing, and partly going on feel/instinct (which is probably completely wrong most of the time). *shrug* Either I'll adjust to using two hands or I'll just force myself to get better at playing one handed. I'm not quite sure which I'll end up doing in the long run; I still have a ways to go before I can even try playing the really hard stuff. But at the moment, I'm still leaning towards one handed playing (with the basically standard finger placement noted before).
