    Mashing-what is it?

I keep hearing about "mashing". What is it? I figured it was just pounding on the arrows, but doens't that give you lotsa boos and messes you up?

Mashing is when you hit keys randomly usually really fast trying to stay alive...so yea, you pretty much got it right.

And yes, it gives you alot of boo's, but you can keep combo on ffr by mashing alot of the time...which is stupid, cause combo is worth alot.

Reach got it... just one point I want to elaborate on...

The only reason most people don't fail songs is because most people get (on average) 2-3 arrows for every boo, so your life bar is climbing more rapidly then it's dropping.

I figured that's what it was -- pressing a bunch of keys at once or at least very quickly in order to try to hit arrows in a fast sequence that's difficult for you to keep up with. No real attempt to hit the right keys, just hit enough fast enough and hopefully you'll get the right ones. I suppose if you're lucky and/or do it right, you will hit enough arrows to offset the boos/misses and stay alive through the section.

Essentially retired now, but still ranked on the list of FFR's Top One Handers.

yeah, mashing is a very bad habit to get in to. you shouldn't try the harder songs until you really feel you are ready. you will NOT get better by BSing songs. perfect attack is what you should conecntrate on, and gradually increase the difficulty as you successfully PA levels (maybe 90 - 95%... you don't have to AAA it). my two cents.

In my opinion, practice makes perfect :P

So, i guess it's ok to mash your very first time on a hard song, just to learn the basic layout a little. Then eventually, you won't have to mash on anything at all.

The only time I've ever mashed is once on Molto Vivace because I got really really mad.
