*EDIT SYNTHLIGHT* - WE ARE NO LONGER USING EFNET. WE ARE NOW USING IRC.ZOITE.NET
Last updated 6/28/03
well, as you see, the chatroom is now IRC based. you have two options on how to connect to it.
1. Use the chat applet in the FFRChatroom link
2. another program, such as mIRC
this will be a little FAQ on mIRC, but some of it applies to the chat applet as well.
Downloading
You can get mIRC from http://www.mirc.com
click downloads and... download
Installation and setup
double click the installer you justs downloaded, and let it do its thing.
when you first start up mIRC, a dialog pops up asking you sever questions. Fill it out #3-6, and #1-2 if you want to.
1. network - The FFR room is on zoitenet, so select that
2. server - select the one closest to you
3. full name - feel free to put anything here
4. email - MAKE SURE YOU PUT IN A VALID EMAIL ADDRESS. Some servers are known to ban people with bad email addresses.
5. nickname - what nick you want use in the chatroom. For example, I use SotN
6. alternate name - what name to use if the first is taken. My alt name is SleepAid.
hit the connect to server button, then let it connect. when it does, a dialog box will pop up. This is asking which chnnel you want to go to. The name of ours is #flashflashrevolution (please, remember the # sign)
chat away!
I'll edit this with more stuff as it's needed.
MISC
if you feel the need to change your nick, use this command /nick <newnick>
if you want to message someone, use /msg <person's name> <message> another way to message is to use /ctcp but most people (especially people running a server) consider that rude.
the list of who is in the channel is on the right hand side. A @ sign before their means that they are an operator of that channel. (ex. @Synthligh) They make sure the cahnnel is nice and tidy by keeping order. A + sign means that they are voiced. Feel free to ignore that, as that doesn't quite apply to our channel right now.
if for some reason you want to join a different server, use the /server <server> command. This is useful, once in a great while. You you go insane and want to join another channel, use /join <channel>
If the server says "ping timeout" you may have to disable your firewall. Before that, open up port 6667, which is the port IRC uses.
