    Offset doesn't work

Thank you for looking to check, it seems I have found a solution for now

    Hey all,

Recently I have had problems with my game being very choppy and lagging following an Adobe Flash update. After over two weeks of troubleshooting, I eventually rid my computer of absolutely every piece of flash, and re-downloaded. Then in chrome://plugins I disabled pepperflash and let it use another player. A lot more went into this and it was a long process, but basically, long story short is my game now runs smoothly. HOWEVER I have a different problem now.

I will play a song and can tell it will be off (usually arrows come before music and I have to hit early to get perf/amazing). I'll adjust the Global offset accordingly (usually by .2 or .3) and when I play again, it is the same issue, off by nearly the same amount.

I use R^3 and have right clicked where my speedmod etc is and adjusted exactly according to the numbers it gives me (the number that is not in the [brackets] lol) and again same problem..

Example: I will play "thinking of you" with a Global offset of 1. The arrows feel a tad bit early, and after a while I can be assured I need to have it be 1.2 in order to be on sync.
I'll play it again (this time with a Global offset of 1.2) and the arrows feel exactly the same. I'll adjust to 1.5 and try again. This process will continue until I have an absurd offset of 4 or 5 and the arrows will feel .2 or .3 too early.

Out of frustration I reset my Global offset to 0. The arrows are VERY early, so I adjust to 1. They are much much better now, but still a tiny bit early, so I adjust to 1.3 etc etc yet they are always a little bit early. It is extremely frustrating, but it seems with every play my necessary offset changes. Eventually with continuously adjusting and retrying, I will have an offset of 4 and just try to play with the arrows being a bit early, and go to a different song and the arrows will be off (again usually early). It's kind of hard to explain the entirety of the situation but has anyone dealt with persistent offset problems before? I have cleared cache but maybe it builds up enough with every play to throw it off more?

P.S. yes I have tried setting my offset to like 8.5 or something ridiculous and the arrows are extremely late, with the music coming first. From there I try adjusting down until it's accurate again, but it really feels like at some point the arrows are a tiny bit early, and I'll adjust up to compensate for that, and they will still be early. It's quite annoying, please help if anyone knows anything

    - Windows 7
    - Google Chrome
    - pepflashplayer.dll is disabled (Adobe Shockwave Flash version 14.0.0.177 - this is the one that causes my game to play very choppy)
    - 14.0.0.145 is enabled

    TL/DR:

I feel like my offset is constantly changing - I will adjust it accordingly to what would normally make it appropriately on-sync, and it will still be the same amount offsync in the same direction.

    Example:
    - Arrows are early
    - I set my Global offset up to compensate
    - Arrows are still early
    - I set offset up even more
    - Arrows are still a tiny bit early
    - Eventually my offset is like 4 or 5 and they are still a tiny bit early and this vicious cycle continues
    - plz help

You've tried flash player 9 in standalone?

Yes. As well as 8, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14. All had the same problem: choppiness. They would go in and out of being smooth (although some would stay choppy throughout).
      I couldn't get 8 to work as a standalone/projector.
Flash Player 9 was about 7/10
Flash Player 10 was about 2/10. Absolutely horrendously laggy, couldn't play
Flash Player 11 was about 7/10
Flash Player 12 was about 6/10
Flash Player 13 was about 8/10 - would be choppy for the first 20-30 seconds and then get smooth for about the same amount of time, then back to choppy
Flash Player 14 was about 8.5/10 - It'd be 10/10 when it was running smoothly, and my accuracy felt best on it, but half way through a song it'd start being really laggy and choppy and I could hardly read it. (Or the other way around - starting out choppy and fixing itself).
I tried all of these after experiencing the choppiness in Chrome for the first time.

IE and FF would run SO smoothly it was amazing. However, it almost felt like a RNG was inputting my accuracies. I would wind up with equal parts amazing, perfect, and good.
Ex score: 98-105-102-0-0-1 on a song or something.
This was even if the arrows were perfectly in sync and I was tapping very accurately (I can consistently AAAA rather well on Stepmania, especially jumpstream.. so it's not a problem with my accuracy). For IE and FF, sometimes I would hit a 14 jump (left and right simultaneously) and get an amazing on the left, and an average on the right. It was just absurd.

Sorry for long response, but yes I have tried all of that. Including uninstalling flash, restarting comp, and installing new one. Also clearing cookies/cache on IE whilst running as admin, then logging in before trying the new standalone.

Damn. All I can think of for you to try now is turning off the accelerator or whatever it's called in the right click settings and trying a different monitor out only one of mine plays ffr 100% smooth. I know what you mean though chrome looks really nice but it truly is fucked for accuracy and offsets won't fix anything. I still think your best bet would be to stick with standalone the choppiness is ugly but at least you might be playing more accurately. Going from 60 fps to 80 might help out a little with the choppiness too.

For me Chrome was always my preference. I used it up until August 28th when a flash update made my game very laggy. Then I tried Standalone 9, 11 and 14 (which I already had) and none worked, so I downloaded the rest to try. I had always had best accuracy, offset, and smoothness on Chrome until the update.

IE and FF were very smooth and looked great but the accuracy was awful.

As of right now, Chrome runs smooth and the accuracy is good, but the offset is the only problem. I think I can still manage the best scores on it than anywhere else, it's just terribly annoying. I might just have to listen to tournament songs 5-6 times until I know them well and just audiate it mentally while I play with it muted

You know what's best for your machine I've heard of somebody else having this issue a while back too. Hope you can find a fix for it. That sucks standalone doesn't suit your need but you should be able to revert back to older versions of flash before that update for chrome. ie's must'v been updated too because I recall ie being way smoother than chrome for anything flash now it's the worst.

On the laptop I play FFR on, I set my standalone to a really small resolution and play full screen, like 640x480 no joke, on low quality, etc. I added a slight screencut for the feel of it, but reducing the resolution reduced my choppy lag. Sometimes I still have a slight offset issue, but I just try and adjust to it as best as I can, and tick the global offset incrementally. I've found little success in changing my judge offset (1).

                Re: Offset doesn't work

Yeah I was pretty blown away to find that IE was running perfectly smooth. It feels like R^3 was actually managing a constant 60fps, which is kinda nuts.. Then the accuracy honestly seems random, so that's unfortunate.

SaxRunner I like that idea and I tried something similar, unfortunately since I'm used to Thirdstyle, I need a very long playscreen with small arrows. (Increasing window size hurts me, as does screencutting).

I play Stepmania on 40% mini (make the arrows 40% smaller) so the playscreen seems longer (to match Thirdstyle, since the playscreen is very long and the arrows stay on screen longer). That way I can use a fast speed mod to read cluttered patterns. However, another problem I run into on FFR is that the screen is too small and there is no way to make the arrows smaller (besides original/velo engines "mini" setting but let's not even talk about that monstronsity LOL). So with the playscreen feeling small, the arrows are on screen for less time and I can't register them fast enough mentally and need to play on a slower speed mod (in comparison to TS / SM). Because of that, I can't read fast patterns because it's too cluttered! (another vicious cycle dundundun).

However it seems I've been able to subdue my problems with offset, at least for now. I'm just kind of messing around with it each time and adjusting as I feel necessary with a "well... good enough" mindset.

I did post a separate thread awhile back asking about a "mini" feature (besides the one that exists in original/velo - because it's bad. very bad.) and that yielded no results. It's very difficult for me to play FFR comfortably, which kinda stinks because my skill level is much higher than my FFR skill level. I could probably come close to AAAA'ing things on SM that I have trouble AAA'ing on FFR :/
