    Random questions from a newcomer

    Hi guys!

My name is Max and I’m new here. I knew about FFR roughly a year ago. I played a little bit, understood that I’m pretty much noob and decided to give up on this. Well, here I am again and now I really would like to get better at this.
I have some random questions that came to my mind after some days of playing:

    1) Currently, I’m playing easy songs (1-4 difficulty) and trying to AAA them. I’ve AAA’ed 25 of them, I guess. Is this a good strategy to begin with? Or probably I should concentrate on more FC’s, not bothering about making the perfection?
    2) I’m playing on R^3 engine with the speed of 2.5x. Is this normal? Or should I try slower speeds?

    Thanks for your attention.

1, AAAs are always a good strategy. Bumping up to higher difficulties will help with speed and reading abilities. Always push yourself, but not too hard!
2, Whatever works for you, you should do it!

      1) what you should do depends on your goals, the ultimate goal always being to have fun
if you're going for a lot of AAAs, then you're doing fine
if you're trying to improve your speed and control, play songs that will be a struggle for you to fc/get 20 or so goods, and dont mash

      2) 2.5x on r^3 is around average for advanced players
      use what's most comfortable

as someone who only focused on PAing (PA: Amount of perfects compared to goods and averages in your score) a song without FC, I think that it would benefit you greatly to practice FCing songs now. It will make AAAing a living hell if you can PA but not FC.

If you really want to see your skill skyrocket, switch to spread right now. Spread is when your index, and middle fingers (or other fingers if you're a badass) on each hand are spread across the keyboard in a convenient key setup such as the common DFJK (D for left, K for right, etc.). Doing this sooner rather than later will make it easier on your muscle memory.

        Remember to always take breaks!

Guys, thank you very much for help. I'll just try to go on and play songs that are more difficult in order to FC them.
Yeah, I know about spread and played on it just from the beginning (ASKL)

Once you get into the higher difficulties, make sure to keep your fingers closer to the keyboard so that you have more time to press arrows and don't use as much energy. ^.^

good job playing at 2.5x. that's what i play on, and took me a while to get to that speed.
i always liked combining AAAing, and FCing. I'd made it a goal to FC all up to 32s, and then kept going higher. At the same time i'd try aaaing easier songs. Going for skill tokens is also very rewarding! You get a benefit from actually unlocking songs, plus it tracks your progress. It pushes you as well cuz you keep trying for harder tokens, and it feels awesome when you finally unlock one. My best unlock was All of the World. R3 omega mix is one of my most played songs cuz of how long it took me to get it.

But then my lady friend got pissed off I was playing FFR instead of playing her. Then for the rest of the night she played the 'Only want me for my body' card and I didn't get to sleep with blankets that night.

                1) If you want to get a bunch of the easier songs perfected, good for you. However, you should also start playing some harder songs so that you'll be able to read the trickier patterns better.
                2) R^3 with 2x speed or higher (ie. 2.5, which is what you're using) is an amazing idea. If you're not already using spread, you should try it out. The key setup I use is QWOP.

Re: Random questions from a newcomer

                  1) It is a decent strategy, but i would try to find songs that push the limit of your skill but not too hard to where you're reduced to mashing it. It might not provide immediate results but trust me you'll get better if you keep pushing it. This way your pattern recognition gets better and your speed and stamina will increase making it easier to play harder songs and for longer.

                  2) Play with whatever is comfortable, though you probably wouldn't want to go any faster than that.

Welcome back to FFR, hope you stick around.
