    SM with a more FFR-like interface?

    I've got a problem. I've gotten too used to the FFR interface (Legacy, more specifically) and whenever I try to playtest a new file I've stepped I find it very difficult to assess the actual difficulty of the file due to the great difference in the interface. That includes the noteskins, the background and the scoring time window for each note. I'm sure that there are patterns that would feel much easier in FFR than they feel in any version of SM.

    Has anyone ever done a mod for SM or another simulator with an interface that is identical or very similar to FFR's? Because that would be awesome. I'm probably asking for too much, though.

    Even if you add an FFR skin, the difference between 30 fps and 60 fps is what makes some files harder or easier in FFR than in SM. I don't know of any skin that reproduces FFR's interface entirely (minus the core mechanics of the engines that is), but I do know there's an FFR noteskin out there.

      I personally use Tomatoshadow's FFR noteskin, as it is the closest representation to the original FFR noteskin available for SM (check the thread for the comparison). I believe it is also the noteskin used in the R^3 engine.

      What version of Stepmania do you use?
      For SM 3.9, I am most comfortable using XI Black R2+. I feel that on windowed mode, this theme simulates a gameplay environment most similar to FFR.

        Do you know which judge difficulty is the closest to FFR's? (assuming SM's Flawless/Marvelous = FFR's Perfect)

        I prefer SM 5 but I also have 3.9. I'll check these things you linked, thanks.

          Wasn't there a way you could export your sm files to your very own ffr engine??
          I never really understood it but I've seen many people with their own engines,
          but, this may not be what you're really looking for iono.

            I'd love that, too. Searching.

              There used to be a website for it, you are probably referring to SSFFRC.

              The website went down a long time ago. Only a select few people have an offline version of it, which is probably what they are using to convert SM files to FFR custom engine ones.

                FFR runs rather leniently compared to the default judgement of J4 on SM. If you want to calibrate your judgement as per FFR's timing window, follow this guideline: (courtesy of silvercomet1525)

                Code:
                JudgeWindowSecondsAttack=0.183333
                JudgeWindowSecondsBoo=0.183333
                JudgeWindowSecondsGood=0.183333
                JudgeWindowSecondsGreat=0.183333
                JudgeWindowSecondsMarvelous=0.050000
                JudgeWindowSecondsMine=0.116667
                JudgeWindowSecondsOK=0.200000
                JudgeWindowSecondsPerfect=0.116667

                The noteskin was created especially for SM5, so you should have no problems. For SM5 I am most comfortable using the Ultralight theme, even if it does not emulate FFR's color scheme.

                  it's the frame timing. how smoothly the arrows scroll is purely psychological, nothing to do with how the judgement between both games works.

                  technically nobody is suppose to have what frank munoz is suggesting, so you are technically out of luck with getting your own ffr engine.*wink*

                    Awesome. Where do I run this code? :P

                    And I tested the noteskin. My scores have improved already, haha

                      you don't run it, you replace the values already present in stepmania.ini with those ones.

                        Does this code work only for 3.9?

                        EDIT: I figured it out, thanks. Changing these parameters is a lot more complicated in SM 5.
