In light of the tournament, I propose that we all divulge our skillboosting secrets. They can be as weird and unconventional as you'd like. Before I play FFR, I wash my hands in hot water because I play better with warm hands. Also, I turn off the lights so my computer screen is the brightest object in the room.

Re: Skillboosting Suggestions
This actually happens to me sometimes too.
What I always did was play files just outside my comfort zone then drop back down to whatever I was trying to AAA or score well on. Eventually I started skillboosting. I've plateaued now though because I just can't seem to grasp FGOs.Originally posted by CharuMy dick is good, thank you very much. Re: Skillboosting Suggestions
I usually start by trying to AAAA RATO, and when that doesnt happen, i give up.
Nah but forreal, I generally play better at night. All of my good scores have come upon me at sundown. I also play some songs in SM before playing in FFR, just not too much that the scroll FPS fucks with my eyes.
In a tournament sense, I focus on songs in SM that reflect skills I will need for the song. ie. jacks, jumpstreams, minijacks, jumpgluts, jump-roll transitions, offbeat nonsense, etc. If for whatever reason that day I am not doing particularly well in my desired area, I play another type of skillset and practice on those if I am faring better. No use in getting frustrated over something that just won't happen that day. Besides, if you are struggling on a song, it will give you time to clear your head and give it a fresher go.
Also, mirror is your friend. mirror the song every once in a while. prevents mindblocks.Comment

Re: Skillboosting Suggestions
If skill boosting was easy, I'm sure everyone would be just as good as the top players around here.
First thing to really help you with skill boosting is no matter how good you get, you should have the mindset that you have not plateaued at all. There is always room for improvement.
If I were you, I would try to analyze yourself and figure out what your strengths and weaknesses are. By doing this, it allows you to focus on what you need work on the most. Once that is done, I would pick songs that target those specific areas that you need to work on the most. If you stink at AAAing songs, work on AAAing. If you suck with your left hand, play a song that makes you utilize your left hand more. Make sense? Think outside the box!
Utilize your breaks as much as possible. I agree with the whole take a day or two off concept, but it's essential that you play just as much as you take breaks. Don't be discouraged if you aren't performing so well one day. It happens to the best of us. Keep your head up and keep practicing man.Last edited by xNiX; 01-30-2013, 02:27 PM.Comment

Re: Skillboosting Suggestions
If part of a song is giving me trouble, causing mindblocks, etc., I just hit the Random button and play a bunch of songs for awhile, whether it be the easiest song I've never AAA'd yet or the hardest song in the game. It allows me to play harder songs to get better at FFR, while also giving me the chance to FC/AAA some easier songs.
When a song isn't giving me trouble at all, aside from random goods, I just keep playing until I AAA. I set AutoFail to the highest number of Goods I've FC'd with, and keep adjusting it as I break that record until I get the perfect score.

Re: Skillboosting Suggestions
I know some people that can replay the song over and over again without developing said mind blocks. Makes me angry because I can't do that, unless I'm REALLY confident with the chart and improving.

Re: Skillboosting Suggestions
Same here. I wish I could do that. Most of my AAA's and scores are just 1 run plays.
