I use two index fingers on the arrow keys when I play this game and I am pretty decent at it. However, I am beginning to think it is going to be literally impossible to get good results in master and up levels if I stay like this. Or maybe I am insane or just bad..... Thoughts, examples, feedback?

Re: Best technique?
Switch to spread. I'm currently using dfkl for my key setup. You will find that getting used to it takes time, but it is definitely time well spent. You will see results quickly.Originally posted by hi19hi19Also why is "summon" in quotation marks as usually that signifies an alternate meaning like for example last night I "visited" your mother but it really means last night I "fucked her in the ass" so exactly what is the subtext of "summon" because I am not sure I am comfortable with the implications

Re: Best technique?
When you get up to the expert/master level and above you'll see a lot of jumpstream, and they get denser. You also see a lot more patterns that are less index friendly. Most people nowadays have adapted to the spread setup. Typically using two fingers on each hand. A more popular key setup is Z X . / or A S K L. Try experimenting with different key setups and find something that's comfortable.

Re: Best technique?
My setup is
S - Left
D - Up
K - Right
M - Down
Accept for up arrows, the rest of the key setup somewhat resembles the direction the arrows face, based on the position of my fingers on the keyboard. This helps me memorize what each button does.

Re: Best technique?
I used to play index too and I really liked it, but I practiced spread all winter and I got a lot better at it. I still have a ways to go (trills especially) but spread opens up a whole new world of gameplay.
Also, I use ASKL.

Re: Best technique?
Double Setup would be the best if people would change their mind about it being legit. I mean it's hard to master but overall you would be able to do more insane stuff using itLast edited by icontrolyourworld; 01-17-2013, 08:12 PM.Comment

Think of every different song on FFR were a girl,
some like to be fisted, while others like to be teased
but most like to be pleased.
Spread that btch:
Use two fingers,

Re: Best technique?
Pretty much this
Also when it comes down to it Index is not a viable competitive style anymore. I'm 100% confident most of the new charts today save for the difficulty 8 on the old scale and below ones can't be done on Index without retard precision and ****** luck.
And before someone talented on Index such as Halogen or Dossar comes in and wrecks my face, you should realize how insane your talents actually are.
tldr: The game now requires spread to be even remotely competitive. You should find a four key setup that works for you. I recommend starting with ASKL (A = left S = up K = down and L = right) and tinkering with it till you can find a comfortable setup that allows reading 4 arrows at once. You cannot play this game anymore reasonably otherwise.
I also recommend that you tinker around with which fingers you use. Most people will play with their index and middle fingers, while there's a few of us who deviate from this norm and use middle and ring fingers ect. You need to find what is comfortable to yourself. Then the practice can really begin.
As someone who dabbles in a lot of play styles comfortable hand positioning is just huge.Comment
