Ok, here is my idea as to how the ban's should work for the bots:

1. Elect a group of people to be the pseudo-mods

2. Give them the power to temporarily ban the bots just to keep them from posting

3. The names of the pseudo-mods' bans should show up to the real mods, like in a list somewhere, and they should decide if the bot is to be totally banned.

This will just basically hold the bots off until a mod comes around to ban the bot completely. Just my $0.02

Just report the bot posts when you see them and the mods will take care of it. There's no way to completely eradicate them without harshly inconveniencing real users.

Hence why I said memorize "large parts" of the original messages!

I'd go as far as just making the word boots bannable seriously I hate these fuckers. And it's more fun my way.. keeps everyone on their toes lol

It's a larger hassle for the actual moderators because you have to be able to ban the spambots to stop them from posting. Simply deleting posts does nothing, and a user won't have the power to ban unless they have full moderator status, which is something that shouldn't be handed out like candy. Local moderators can't ban bots and honestly, shouldn't be able to.

You can't just give people power to temp ban, it doesn't work that way.

probably the best thing that's been said so far. Anything you guys will do will make this harder for FFR to be a community.

Electing "janitors" would make it so there's yet another hierarchy of people on the forum. They also could abuse their power at any point, but that's not as hard to deal with.

Maybe make it so you have to do something like play the game before you can post. Everyone here does that except for alts. (maybe that would promote people filling up the scoreboards with Alts I guess? D: )

Making a thread for the accounts waiting for perma is pointless, you might as well wait for an admin/mod to see the actual thread with the spam and ban the bot itself before the thread is made.

Another option is to hire more General Moderators, which doesn't seem like an undo-able or bad idea imo.

The problem with regular IP bans is dynamic IPs. You ban an abuser but then end up unintentionally banning someone else (because their ISP randomly switched them to that IP address for example or it was a public location computer/etc...)

But one thing you can do is ban IPs based on region. There are ways to find out most of the IP addresses that come from x location in the world. Then just blanket ban the Russia region and the China region. It'll be unfortunate for any legitimate users from those areas, but are there any? Many sites do similar and find it cuts out 90% or more of their spam.

I mean seriously, it's a serious question. Do we have any users here who currently reside in Russia or China? Because if not, then it's a "quick fix".

And you could have a page where they can e-mail an admin or something if it was an accidental ban. This would also be a way for actual Russian or Chinese users to get around the "blanket ban everyone from Russia or China", as I don't imagine there would be very many.

I like UserName's idea of allowing exceptions for legitimate users if we region-ban any area.

i still think my idea of making it so you have to get 15mil GT before posting on the forums will work well
