    One hand or two hands?

When you play FFR (or any DDR-type game), do you use one or two hands? /recap

Personally, I use one hand unless I'm about to die on a brutal stage, but I usually just button mash with two hands. :d

I don't get how people can use two hands, how do they do it?! :<
It seems like the only way to perfect levels 11 and higher.

But yeah uhhh, how do you FFR? /:J

I repeatedly slam my kb against the wall in hopes of hitting notes. Oddly enough my PA isn't that great.

Most people play spread (4 fingers, 4 keys, 2 hands) Playing hard songs one-handed is possible but you'll take way longer to improve.

Play one handed and you'll get about as good as me or Bynary Fission. Play 2 handed and you could be as good as Dossar. Now honestly which one sounds better?

Re: One hand or two hands?

I tend to bolt my kb down to the floor and run in place on top of it. It makes for good exercise and the thought that running in place more faster increase my chance at getting a full combo inspires me to workout to my maximum potential.

On a serious note, I use two hands. There have been threads about this topic before, and if you look through them, people talk about the physical aspects of why a two-handed approach is much more beneficial than a one-handed approach.

I play FFR and SM (just recently got into sm) with two hands. There are a bunch of different techniques; both one-handed and two-handed, for playing FFR. The most commonly used/favored setup is called spread, which uses your middle and index fingers on both hands on a key setup that is usually (key word usually) in a straight line. For example: My spread setup is 'E-R-U-I' in correspondence to the arrow directions 'Left-Down-Up-Right'.

At first you might not improve, but actually lose some ability, but in the long run, playing FFR with two-hands is more ideal (For most, there are some exceptions like Bynary Fission and SK8R3.).

Re: One hand or two hands?

Also some other things to experiment with:

                      - Trying different rows. Especially if you play with your wrists rested, this is actually an important aspect. Like if your wrists are resting at the very edge of your keyboard, it would probably be uncomfortable. An example of changing row setup would be switching from askl to qwop. Also some people play with each hand in different rows (like asop) so that's another thing worth looking at.

-Convex/Concave. I forget which one is which when people refer to it, but it basically means the keys for each hand are not horizontal, but in some diagonal fashion such as qslp of awli. Choosing a style like this makes some patterns easier and some more difficult in my opinion, for example I find one handed trills much easier on qslp than on my usual askl setup.

-Distance. I'm talking about the distance between your two hands when playing spread. Most people like to keep their hands far apart and use setups like askl or qwop or zx./, although some players use what's known as "tight spread" where all the keys are close or adjacent such as fghj. This makes your playing space more cramped, so I don't use it, but it's really beneficial for some songs where indexing (two hands, one finger each) some parts would be more beneficial since it's easy to switch back and forth with a key set up like fghj. A good example of a song where this would be beneficial would be Flight of the Bumblebee, where spread players struggle with one handed trills while indexers find it to be a cakewalk.

Re: One hand or two hands?

One-hand is generally the choice of newbies. Apparently it's hard to get out of, but I wouldn't know since my first style was 3 finger.

When using the arrow keys (ie; Index) you WILL eventually hit a barrier that you cannot overcome (usually jumpstream) and will hit the glass wall soon.

Spread is the choice of pros, and the best choice on FFR IMO.

Banned from FFR is dual-style, due to its help with jacks and other patterns, but even if it wasn't, it takes a LOT of coordination unless you're playing Jackhammer Madness.
