A question (or two) relating to stepcharts

If I am making a stepchart in Beginner difficulty (which I just now learned from the submission rules that it's a no-no), is there a way to copy/paste it to another difficulty (like Light)? Or do I have to start over?

Also, long songs (at least 5 min) are okay as long as they aren't repetitive? Or would I have to submit them into parts?

Also, if I set my play speed (not song speed) in Stepmania at 2x, is it the same as 2x in FFR?

1:depending on the editor depends on the steps you take to do this but it's definitely possible

2:no you don't have to submit it in parts but longer songs are scrutinized more

3: no 1x on ffr is c300 or c400 iirc

Yes. You can use "copy from existing" on a new difficulty in Stepmania. Very easy to do in ddream too, just copy all the steps and paste into a different difficulty. Also delete the Beginner because you can only have one difficulty in a submission.

Going to depend a lot on the song, and the chart as a whole. Being repetitive isn't necessarily the same as being outright boring. Sometimes it might be better to trim out the more boring parts of a song to keep steppable parts, which is a somewhat advanced use of Audacity...

No. Speed mods in FFR are more analogous to CMods in Stepmania. A 2x mod in Stepmania scrolls the arrows at 2x the BPM of the chart at any given point, while a CMod scrolls at the same rate no matter what. That's what is in FFR, all songs scroll at the same rate that you can set in the options.

What do I do if I play FFR at 1.9x speed? In Stepmania, I see C200 and C400. Apparently C400 is 1x in FFR and I don't see any higher C###. Do I just step my chart at C400 and then practice it at FFR (not even sure if I can test my chart at FFR)? Would my steps sync the same if I changed the speed from Stepmania to FFR?

That speed that you play your chart has nothing to do with the sync of the file

Adding CMods in older versions of Stepmania is complicated. Probably best to upgrade to Stepmania 5.

Scroll rate does not affect sync.

The top half of this you need to copy into your english.ini and replace whatever english xmod/cmod options are already there

the bottom half of this ctrl+f and copy over into the metrics.ini (again erasing what mods you have to replace with these) starting at # Player options

or just a) upgrade to SM5 or b) use a theme that comes with the tedious cmod adding work already done

but no yea, your scroll rate on sm doesn't matter when being converted to FFR. Everything is set to a default C310 for 1x

So does that mean for my FFR scrollspeed of 2.9x that would be 2.9*310 = C899 in stepmania? It would seem so

                  I use etterna btw

                      yes

EDIT: but keep in mind the aspect ratio on SM is different, so you might want to go a bit higher.

a whole room full of chefs cant seem to cook a bowl of cereal whats 1 more opinion going to hurt?
relating to player speed used when charting; if you truly believe in physics you would chart at 4x scroll speed considering 1x is too dense and 8x is too fast. but you have that option, i personally chart with the notion of cause, effect, and consequence actually existing in this modern world of quantum physics.

What is this crew that has this special ability to test stepcharts on FFR? How does one get in?
