I've read on this forum that people think a video can always be faked score wise, by way of the .ini file, judge difficulty, etc.

I'm wondering if this following procedure may help in letting people prove that their videos are real, without having people constantly calling BS on their accomplishment.

I guess this should really only apply to Stepmania files that are inherently difficult for people to believe that the scores are real (something along the lines of a AAA Blur, etc.)

      1. Always play the song first and show that the music rate and arrow speed are what you boast you are capable of doing.

      2. Once you've achieved your prized score, exit to the main screen (Do not close Stepmania and Re-open) and show your Judge Difficulty is at what it is supposed to be.

      3. Next, do a complete Search of your computer for the Stepmania.ini file on your computer. Once the search is complete, show that your .ini file is what it is supposed to be. (If you have more than one version on Stepmania on your computer, show each Stepmania.ini to be sure). This should begin at the top of the directory hierarchy ("My Computer") in case people have multiple hard drives.

Like I said, this procedure is more for songs where people will call BS at the drop of a dime. And since the proof of Judge Difficulty and .ini files are all done at the end, these do not become redundant because you only do them when you've achieved the score you wish to show off.

I believe that this procedure does very well in proving the integrity of Video Proof. If anyone would like to give reasons as to where this procedure is flawed, feel free to. (As if I can stop you )

that works... just to satisfy arch, you also need to show both fingers and screen... in case of a double set up. but, i guess if you showed your mapping screen as well as your judge difficulty to show that you only have one set up and not two, that would work also...

You also should show where the stepmania.exe shortcut leads to.. right click it and go to properties.. because I did all that (above) and still got called BS for this..

Wouldn't that not matter, if you do a search for Stepmania.ini, starting at "My Computer"?, even if there is some shady work with the Stepmania shortcut, it will still eventually lead back to a Stepmania.ini file which may or may not be modified.

Just show that Stepmania is only on C Drive and not on D which means there's only 1 SM installed.

What if there are hidden folders on D drive(I guess you can just go "Show hidden folders", or Stepmania folder hidden within another folder, etc.?

i have 2 Stepmanias installed on 1 drive and one ini doesnt affect the other, i wouldnt think. in case ur wondering why i have 2, it's because i tried changing arrow colors and stuff, but didnt wanna lose anything permanently. i had another reason, too, but i forget. oh well
So I've gone completely slack-ass and haven't done any work on creating games. =(

In less-depressing news, I got a job for an online business (which sells non-electronic games, of all things!) which has taught me a lot about marketing online and all that jazz.

So now I'm on Twitter @NoahWright.
And I write the blog for their website.

Plus I do cool programming in-house that you'll never see. =O

I'm not saying that having more than 1 Stepmania installation will cause problems with the .ini files, I'm saying that after searching through the computer for the Stepmania.ini file (and more than one should come up if you have multiple installations) you should show each .ini file in order to prove that even if there could be shady shortcuts, each Stepmania.ini file is as it should be which will help prove that your score is not faked.

Or you could just launch SM directly like in my Quasar video.

Well.. I record it with my camcorder.. and a while ago my mom bought some program so she could put home movies onto the computer and put them onto DVD's. It's called ViedOh! DVD .. It bassicaly just comes with wires and a few programs. So I hook it up and I use Sonic DVD to take the video. Then I put it through the Windows video editor thing.
