IMO it matters on 2 things... one, how much time you put into it, and your dedication... and two, having some amount of ability or knack for it... Though I believe the amount of time you put in is more important in the long run...
I think it takes a good amount of both to get really good...

It really is all about speed. MA and PA improve from playing a lot. Speed is hard to improve.
People like Nima, Reach, and Privateer all became very good very fast because they had pretty good speed to start off with. Most of us, on the other hand, don't have that speed. Origami improved quicker than I ever did. Not just because he played more, but because he's had better speed.
Take a look at Nima's older scores. He could do what some of us can't, and we can do some things he couldn't. You can see his speed was quite high already, then his MA/PA started to improve a lot from playing. His speed increased, but gradually.
I dunno... for me it's the reverse... my MA/PA hasn't gotten THAT much better since being able to SDG stuff like mur mur and dancing all alone... despite playing a ton... but my speed has gotten MUCH faster... maybe I'm just weird like that...
o, and I DID play more that you lol... at least I think I did? remember when we danced and I was barely matching you from playing hours each day, while you would play like 15 min a day and get everythign on the 1st or 2nd try? lol... ahhh good times...
