    New Player Tracking Full Combos

Hi all. I've posted a couple times here in some other threads, but thought I'd go ahead and start my own to track things as I feel like it without worrying about whether it's appropriate in other threads or not. So for a first post here, I'll list the full combos I've gotten so far. I do have screen shots of all except the first one, didn't think to take one at the time, so I can prove them. But I don't want to post a whole lot of images, especially not at once, so just take my word for it. I have no reason to want to lie and fool you people. Here's the list in the order I did them:

    Dance 2 This: 117 perfect, 39 good, 5 average
Trip to the Moon: 94 perfect, 44 good, 5 average
Falling Into You: 237 perfect, 58 good, 6 average
Falling Into You: 288 perfect, 12 good, 1 average
Spontaneous Hydroxide: 284 perfect, 31 good, 3 average, 1 boo
Computer Dreams: 184 perfect, 2 good
Falling Into You: 291 perfect, 10 good
Moonlight Sonata: 144 perfect, 43 good, 13 average
    SuperMario 8bit Eighties...: 168 perfect, 6 good
Freak Out: 250 perfect, 35 good, 1 boo
    Seattle's Finest: 161 perfect, 8 good
Love You Anymore: 78 perfect, 33 good, 9 average
    RainDrops: 431 perfect, 34 good
Activity Unbroken: 228 perfect, 20 good, 1 average
    Halcyon: 138 perfect, 10 good, 2 average, 1 boo
Stay With Me (Unlikely): 237 perfect, 10 good
Terror from Beyond: 432 perfect, 72 good, 10 average
Soul Shift (ffr edit): 219 perfect, 33 good

Yes, all fairly easy stuff for most of you, I'm sure. But I'm still pretty new and I've got to start from the bottom and work my way up.

I have a total of 18 FCs in 16 different songs at the moment and a handful were only about 10 arrows away from PCs. I can't consistently FC them, but at least I've managed to do it once. FWIW, I think the boos that snuck in were either because I anticipated too much and jumped the gun on an arrow or because I hit some lag and was trying to avoid missing an arrow and breaking the combo. The last two FCs were today. I've gotten pretty close on a few more songs and probably would have FCed them if it wasn't for some lag pockets making me break my combo. Not much I can do about that though. So I'm working on trying to get at least on FC on the easier level songs that I haven't yet, hopefully I'll get them soon, and starting to push into higher levels to force my skills to improve. The higher levels are tricky, faster with more arrows and I have trouble keeping up. But the only way I will be able to do them is practice and forcing myself to pick up the pace on the eye-hand coordination.

Well, that's probably plenty of information. Comment or not, as you will. I'll try to update this now and then in case anyone does happen to be interested in kind of following a new player's progress.

Here's what I've found useful. Instead of keeping a public record you can just make an Excel chart that lists all the songs in Column A and their respective numbers across the board: Combo, Perfects, Goods, Averages, Boos, Misses. Then I do Best Score (the score of the numbers you put in) and then the AAA Score (Full combo, all perfects).

Then you can italicize the FCs and Bold the PCs (AAAs). Tally them up and keep getting more!

This idea borrowed from Tasselfoot. I also have a calculator that totals the score based on a very complex formula:

      (Combo*1000)+(Perfects*550)+(Goods*275)+(Averages*55)+(Boos*-20)+(Misses*-310)

      (Which in my excel document looks like: "=SUM((K5 * 1000),(L5 * 550),(M5 * 275), (N5 * 55),(P5*-20),(O5*-310))"

And of course the AAA score is easily achieved.

      Combo (Full) * 1550.

That's not a bad idea, MrESqueek. I did see Tasselfoot's sheet over in the League forms somewhere and saved it for reference so I can easily use that as a start. But I'm having trouble. I normally don't use spread sheets and don't have Excel. I have Microsoft Works and Open Office, both of which have spread sheet tasks, but neither seems to let me write equations for entire columns and have it automatically know it should operate row by row. Do I really have to put the same equation into every single cell for every single song? Because that's what it looks like and I don't really want to do that. Not now anyway. Maybe some other time. There's no rush because I hadn't really planned on keeping that detailed of a record. I just copied the info above off my screenshots. The sheet might be easier in the long run though.

Here. This is aside from all my numbers.

I have Combo there to help me determine the max combo in a song. The formula for that is simply adding whatever value is within Perfects, Goods, Averages, and Misses. Apparently this is wrong sometimes (like when you get a good and it turns into a miss)... or simply

            =SUM(L5, M5, N5, O5)

            ~Squeek

PS - I have my numbers out of 58 because I have only 4 genres included: Dance, Secret, Purchased, and Arcade. Those are the only good ones after all.

heh.. glad you gave me the credit there Squeek.

i was going to post a link to my thread on my excel sheet.... but you already have it.

also, try and borrow a Microsoft Office CD from a friend of yours (i'm sure some of them have it), and install it. Works Suite SUCKS big time compared to Office... you'll like it alot more, and the spreadsheet is hundreds of times easier to work with.

also, squeek... tisk tisk man. only out of 58? list the other 27.

MrESqueek, so do you have that calculator as just one line by itself, use it for everything, then copy the answers up into the appropriate cells in your sheet? I guess I can do it that way. It will be more work to start, but won't be so bad once my scores settle down. I wish I could just give it whole columns in the equation and it would know to make the calculation row by row though. I checked the FAQ and the equation you gave for total score should be right. But when I looked at the screen shots of the first few I filled in, they don't match. And it's not consistent. Even from the few I entered I saw ones where the game score was higher, lower, and the same as what I calculated. Weird.

Open Office is basically the open source version of Star Office which is what we have on the unix machines at school and it opens and works with Microsoft documents. So this should be fine. I don't think I really need to get Microsoft Office. And my field's science, I rarely use programs like spread sheets and regular word processors. Yeah, I guess I could borrow from someone who has it, but for how little I'm likely to use it, I might as well just stick with Open Office which is free.

If you want screen shots, I'll put up one for now. Here's the Terror from Beyond FC. It's certainly far from perfect, but I was kind of happy to get this one because I had been practicing with it for a while and close to a FC probably more than a few times (lag is annoying).

if you download my spreadsheet. (squeek's is merely a modified version of mine)... you'll see the formula listed in the column for score... and using Excel, you just have to use the fill down command for it to copy down all the cells of that column....

i don't know anything about how programs for unix work. and, also, as a finance major... i use excel alot.

before i made my spreadsheet, i just used a few pieces of paper to write everything down. if i got a new score, i'd cross off the old one and write the new one in. needless to say, this way is much easier.

Hmm. I don't remember seeing a formula in that column, but maybe I did something wrong or it's the programs I'm using. Since they aren't Excel, they might be having some problems with converting everything over properly. I'll try to check it out again later tonight and see what I can do. I'm sure I can make it work, it may just take a bit more work for me to do it with the programs I have. So far I've just been writing down the songs I got FCs on and taking screen shots. I wasn't even writing down scores. A spread sheet will make it a lot easier to track details once I can get it working for me, one way or another.

Edit: OK, I was obviously doing something wrong when trying to copy the information from your file into a new one for me, Tasselfoot. I just copied the whole thing over and it seems to be working fine now, I'll just have to fill it in with my scores as I go along. Thanks for posting it. Can I ask where you got your difficulty numbers from and how do they work? This might be handy for me to decide which songs to play as I work my way up the levels, but I need to know what they mean first.

That's what I guessed it was, but I wasn't certain. Thanks for confirming it. I think things get mixed up when I sort by columns though so I'll have to watch out for that. But now I can get the difficulty levels of the purchased songs without buying them. Cool. I can buy them in order of difficulty as I get to being able to do those levels then.

I also have one more FC that I got just a little while ago. This brings me to 19 total on 17 different songs. This is also the first Standard level song I've gotten a FC on -- Salad For Your Tuesday. Here's the screen shot.

Edit: I just got another one so that makes 20, but it was on a song I already FC'ed. I managed to improve my score on Dance2This to only 3 goods. Close to a PC, but not quite there.

Yes, I know this is two posts in a row, but this one deserves its own post. I decided to play one more game to get my point total over 83 million and picked an easy song to play because I didn't need that many points to do it. Well, I just got my first AAA! I'm completely aware that this is a piece of cake for most of you, but as the first perfect combo I've gotten, I just have to share. It was on Trip to the Moon and here's the screen shot.
