How long does it take to get unrusty

I didn't know where else to post this, so I posted it here.

I wanna get back into FFR/Stepmania, and I know I'll probably never be an elite player like AlexDest or OWA, but I at least wanna be part of the competition again! However, I'm just so rusty. Jumpstreams tire me out, 240+BPM streams lock my fingers, and my PA seems to be rusted as well. How long does it take for this to go away?

It takes me a few days of playing quite a bit to get my skill back. Play songs that push the skill you have at the moment, and you will get better, trust me. I do this every couple of months.

It depends on how much skill you had to begin with I would imagine, and of course for how long you have been away.

From experience though, when I left rhythm gaming for a year and returned, it took around 4 months to get back to around where I was skill wise. Just play a little bit every day and I doubt it would take you much longer than that if you have a lot of skill to regain.

From what I recall, you where quite keen with MA on plenty of charts back in the day

My advice, Play the KB collaboration 1-3. and the smg packs

Also play on higher judges, after awhile It'll make j4 easy as cake.

        Good luck

Sometimes you're rusty for different reasons than practice. Maybe it's a good time to check out keyboards, lag, or indirectly related issues with whatever is stopping you from playing at your best.. You should only need to play a few hard songs out of your comfort zone to get back on track imo.

Best advice I've seen to learn how to jumpstream/handstream is it's just trills basically. So practice your trilling. As for rustiness, just go for what you were back then, and skip trying to achieve what you had. You just get mad. D:

this, then endurance takes even longer (long enough to stop keeping track)

I will have to disagree with this and say that playing newer charts and packs would be better. Newer files are much more of a challenge to MA and combo due to the fact that everyone has progressively gotten better over time and with that, charts also increased in difficulty.

Other than say the classic files that everyone plays (RE: St.Scarhand, Airhand, Dragonforce, etc.) there are only a handful of files from back in the day during that time period that can really help you improve to today's skill standards—I mean wouldn't you want to play today's files rather than focus on the past? Everyone is getting better as time progresses and with that, ways of charting and making files much more difficult goes hand-in-hand along with it.

Considering your old skill level, I'd just say push yourself to the limit and play the HSMP packs. You'll probably get it back pretty quickly if you just practice and learn to tolerate the extreme speeds/densities/stamina required (yes, I said tolerate lol).

Gundam-Dude brings up excellent points though; I'd definitely take a look at his suggestion before pushing my route.
