Ranker My Server

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on July 2nd, 200629 Comments »

So… ever since Jason and Synthlight made the upgrades and improvments to our quad opteron server, LD has wanted to really push the limits of our mysql server. A few mountain dew’s later, LD brings us Level Rank Stats. What the page will show you, when logged in, is a listing of your rank on every song you’ve played, ordered from best to worst.

What does this allow you to do? Well… it allows you to easily view what songs you might want to improve your rank on, in an off-game location.

This is still a beta-feature, so give the report some time to generate… we’re really giving the server a run for it’s money with this script, as it’s very server intensive. Let us know if you run into any problems.

More to come this July :-) Stay tuned.

FFR Level Stats / Song Stats and IIR

Posted in FFR News on June 30th, 200618 Comments »

Many of you have likely already noticed, but the FFR Game Level Stats or essentially the Song Stats came online this week. More work is being done in the stats over the next week or so. If you have suggestions regarding game stats, or having difficulty finding your way around in existing stats, let us know. Likely we will tie the game stats together with the Top 10 Songs of the Day as we continue to develop.

Additionally, we are redoing some of the Independant Internet Ranking (or IIR) interface and getting some cleanup done in there as well. I think its back up and running fine for now, but if you find issues with it, do let us know.

Additional Server Updates Going On

Posted in Server Updates on June 28th, 200622 Comments »

Guys, we are doing an update to the server, yes .. yet again. As we keep growing, we are trying to gives these processors a run for their money so to speak.

Note: FFR Chat Is Back Online

To give you guys an overall update, a lot more users jumped in yesterday and FFR broke some records which we are pleased with. The current server load has saw an increase, but is staying steady and manageable. These updates and upgrades are mainly software for now, not to the server hardware. Howeverl soon we will likely kick in another big ol’ SATA harddrive.

These changes allow us to make sure that when the final release of SpinItUp comes online (not to mention the other big super secret things we are planning) will all run smoothly. Bear with us as the continued changes are going forward.

Thanks for your patience and enjoy the show ..

Spin It Up ingame screenshot

*EDIT* Version .41 released 3:30pm Central

We released SpinItUP Version .40 alpha this morning. I have added 2 experimental wave modes in the example song. One of the new waves is right at the start and another near the middle of the level where the music gets quiet. The second wave mode requires the X key to be held down for double mode.

Don’t try and cheat by using double mode on single waves or else it will give you 50% less percentage for that wave.

Right clicking and hitting play has been disabled. ;) Additional CPU related enhancements should ease the pressure on your PC’s.

Still no interface on the game but atleast it has a preloader to let you know it’s not dead while you are loading the song :) . We should be getting the interface sometime this week if things go well.

Also, post any notes or thoughts you have in the SpinItUp Forum which we will monitor as this gets cleaned up and finalized.

Cheers,

Song of the Week: Resurrection In Progress

Posted in Song of the Week on June 26th, 200624 Comments »

RIP (not rest in peace) is this weeks song of the week! The very talented sleeplessdragn has released this song, which was over 4 minutes long, but has been cut to just 2 minutes by LD.

You can find the song in the dance section, on the second row. Should be a good file for intermediate players, and the more advanced players should find it fun too :-)

We’re still busy at work with many other projects, including Spin It Up! Be sure to check out the news stories below.

We cleared up many issues and plans moving forward with SpinItUp development today. We also made the decision to move to a 60 frame per second platform instead of a 30fps platform. This may cause a tiny bit more strain on really slow computers but we must think forward here over the next few years and do not want to be held down. The 60fps version is currently up and will be available if you clear your cache. Version .34 Alpha.

So lets go way back.. Way back to June 21st 2006. After just finishing our massive effort to convert hundreds of millions of records from the database server and nearly rewire the game from scratch, we felt a bit burned out on server development. So what better to do when you are burned out than to take 2 1/2 days and create a new concept for a music game?! :) Today we present you with the early stages of a new concept we call “SpinItUp”. A music game at heart that judges on mouse position rather than just timing alone. It takes some getting used to but within a few plays you should be hitting 75%-85% average accuracy.

Keep in mind that alpha release is extremely stripped down in order to show you the basics. Near future development will allow for some really fantastic options. Double waves, spinner waves, all waves are modular and can be easily created and added to the game. Did I mention that this game is 100% compatible with all existing FFR levels?

This version of SpinItUp will allow you to play 1 song with simple post game results. New levels to arrive soon.

FFR Multiplayer Socket Server Update ..

Posted in FFR Multiplayer on June 21st, 200656 Comments »

Well, some of you guys may love this, and likely some of you will hate this. As you know, we have done some updates to “FFR Multi-Player Music Game” to get some of the more obvious exploits out. Yes, it is certainly hard to find everything, but we are doing what we can.

For the sake of our server performance .. we have nailed down some of these bugs. For those of you that hate exploiters, you will likely cheer with glee. The exploiters however, will likely bleat in dismay (some will even show themselves for who they are in comments of previous posts … but go unnamed).
