Goodbye Av Misses.. Hello Public
Finally!
I want to thank all the players that have been so patiently waiting for the Average Miss fix to go public. I also want to thank the many many subscribers aka beta team members that have tested this fix for the last few months. This will no doubt change the landscape of high scores on FFR forever.
This wasn’t the only feature that we are bringing out of beta today.
- Key Remapping. No longer do you need to use external programs to remap your FFR keys. This is all handled with the settings menu of FFR
- Page Numbers in genres for quicker navigation. I think this is fairly self explanatory. This new inclusion reduces the endless page flipping. Consider this a patch job until 3rd Style is released.
- Song selection dropdown menu. While the graphics polish for this is still being developed, we found it important to release this feature. Simply click the ‘s’ from the main screen and you will be presented with a dropdown list of all available songs. You even have the ability to randomly load a song within a certain difficulty range. If you have particular favorite songs, many times this is the quickest way of launching into those songs.
You may ask where this leaves all the people who joined the beta team just so that they can use the av miss version. I can tell you with confidence that you will soon have new and interesting features to play with.
Muahaha
Cheers,
Synthlight + Omg, when did we get a new layout on FFR?
3 New Songs!
Death Piano is now available in Hip-Hop. It’s the hardest public file in the game. I got over 300 misses on it my 1st run through. And that was with the avmiss fix. Song is by crazy Japanese dude Xi. Stepfile is by stargroup100. Enjoy… you all asked for hard.
M.A.M.A. is a fairly typical song by DJ Sharpnel. The stepfile, on the other hand, is a bit unique in that it lacks something fairly important. You’ll figure it out. Chart is by the one and only Corn King himself, hi19hi19. Song is located in the upper left hand corner of Dance2, page 1.
Finally, we just couldn’t wait any longer! We had to give all of you the wonderful music of Gunther. I’m sure you all are already familiar with the Ding Dong Song, but Gunther was so awesome… he recorded a special version just for FFR! Check it out in the upper left hand corner of Dance, page 1. Stepfile is by yours truly, Tasselfoot.

Contest #1: Walrus + Bucket = Lulz
In honor of MalDON, our resident walrus, we’ll be running a walrus related contest. I’m sure you’re all familiar with the profile chat walrus and his silly bucket. For this contest, create a cartoon strip that involves the walrus and his bucket. Funniest strip wins, as determined by MalDON and myself.
Post entries and commentary in this thread. You will have until 8:30pm PST (aka 11:30pm EST or 10:30pm CST) to get submissions in. 1st place will be a 6 months subbie. Additional prizes may be given out on a merit basis.

EDIT: 3-way tie between hazard28, n3v3rl4nd, and silver_brian for 1st place. 2 month subbie to each! Congrats! Check the thread for their submissions. No additional contest tonight… but maybe one tomorrow morning? FMO/FGO songs are coming!

ElectroShock You 3oh!3 Style
So here we are on thursday and as I promised to all of you, I have a high-resolution exclusive of the new 3oh!3 video “ElectroShock”.
I have to admit that the first time I heard of 3oh!3 I wasn’t quite sure to expect. But.. After digging into their past and present, countless videos on youtube and incredible lineup of tracks, I found a group that really hit home with me in a twisted pop, nostalgic, hip-hop, modern, retro, punk, gangster and mustache kind of way. (I promise, no more commas).
Below you will find a high resolution player for the Electroshock video directed by the brilliant Isaac Ravishankara. You can find the 3oh!3 FFR widget here and the 3oh!3 myspace page over here.

Kick Your Bodom
Up until now we have generally considered the widget players a more fragile and noob type of player (which they are!). We think it is time to start stepping it up a bit and create a widget that has nothing but challenging levels.
What kind of of music did we pick for this difficult genre? Metal of course. What band? Children of Bodom.
And as an exclusive to FFR, we have received the full resolution version of BloodDrunk. We have embedded it here in this news story and you can switch to fullscreen by clicking the fullscreen button in the bottom right corner of the video embed. Read more… »
Everyone Gets Presents on Tass’s Birthday!
Just like last year, I’ve decided to give some gifts to everyone in honor of my birthday. I’ve added 4 new songs into FFR, in 4 different genres:
Pavlov’s Dog is by artist Jon Brownell, stepfile by Vote4Nixon. Fairly straight forward techno song that I’ve rated a low 7. It has 1 section of 4-note mini-trills that makes it a 7, along with a few 24th rolls, instead of a 6. It is located in the front of Dance.
Over the Frail Dream is a fairly well known StepMania song by Phantasma. For FFR, it is stepped by SulferDragon and has some 200bpm stream, but not much. Mostly 8th notes. I’ve rated it a 9. I’m aware it’s a 10 with framer issues, but I’m assuming down the road that that fix will be public, so I’m starting to rate based on that assumption. It is in the front of Dance2.
Dishwater is a highly amusing (although somewhat profane) “rap” by Futuristic Sex Robotz. I wouldn’t quite call it nerdcore, but it’s similar.  Stepfile is by dore. 75bpm 16ths brings this file in at a 5. You can find it in the beginning of Hip-Hop.
Also added is Rise Against’s Survive, stepped by bluguerrilla.  Very cool song, although it is in that “emo” MySpace genre that I know you all love so much. I rated it a 10, but I’m willing to discuss making it a 9. Located in the front of Rock.
For the subscribers, I’ll have new stuff on Sunday. There should also be other subscriber songs that became public today… Kirby’s Dream Land. Currently in Funk, but I will finally be moving all those out soon. Also, Synth’s contest will be up… but who knows when.Â
