15th Official Tournament, SotW and Weekly Update 6/3/2022

You guys have been asking us for a big, nice, Official Official Tournament Post, so here it is. Welcome to FlashFlashRevolution’s 15th Official Tournament. Always guaranteed to have some of the tightest elimination competition, over some of the most ridiculous (and popular!) songs of the year. I won’t sugarcoat it for ya, there’s been an extensive amount of work put into setting a new bar of what is to come.

Want to sign-up for it? Click below, can’t miss it.

It’s that simple.

To those that might be firstcomers, or have never participated or watched FlashFlashRevolution’s Official Tournaments in the past, what is it?

The Official Tournament is a once-per-year event, where we call to arms all rhythm gaming 4-key players together to test their mettle and accuracy against one another in one of the oldest birthed rhythm games on the internet, in the traditional left, down, up and right arrows that ignited our love for rhythm games, and this website! It’s been nearly 20 years since the launch of FlashFlashRevolution, and our love for rhythm games expanded since then on how we play them! No matter what kind of 4 keys are pressed nowadays, FFR has grown to accommodate, and encourage anyone with the ability to hit keys fast, to sign-up.

Starting July 1st, participants will be divided into 8 divisions of skill, and will be given a week to earn the highest possible score for the host-selected song in their respective division. Every Friday between then and August 26th will see the lowest-scoring players eliminated, a new song released and another week to obtain scores. Survive 8 weeks, and be crowned king of your division! All songs/charts/maps are brand new, curated by some of the best Stepauthors in 4-key, and drafted specifically for this Official Tournament, that means a megapack of new songs every year! Crazy, huh?

If you wish to check out more about the 15th Official Tournament, we have a Forum Thread dedicated for discussion around and during the tournament. Also, we have a Discord that has 1000′s of players talking every week! If you want to get a heads-up on your song every week, we also have OfficialFFR broadcasting on Twitch every Thursday night before songs go out! We hope to see you there, whether you laugh in excitement, or pale in fear of the songs to come!

Will let you carry on with the rest of your Weekly Update, and Songs of the Week.

For other news, there’s a couple new batches that have opened up. We have the June/July 2022 batch (open through July 31st) and the Dump Batch (open through August 31st). The Dump Batch is our latest special batch, where expectations are more lenient on what you can do with your file. You can find submission details and discussion within the Dump Batch Discussion Thread.

As for ongoing events, Season 3 is getting closer to concluding with 270 ranked participants so far. There’s less than a month left before season 4 begins July 1st, so get your scores in! Last to mention is that we have a new song artist this week! Details are below.

Songs of the Week and Weekly Update 5/6/2022

Welcome to the first Song Release and Weekly Update for May! Last week’s release on April 29th featured 5 songs from the Stepcon, each from 1st place winner in each class; those songs were available immediately so no public releases today. One of our songs for today is an older one, but an FFR first for the artist who is also a longtime resident of ours!

StepCon 2022 is coming closer to an end. The Final StepOff voting period starts today and lasts until 11:59 PM on May 12th. This time you’ll be voting for the best file created by one of the winners from the previous round. Just like the first voting period, anyone can vote. Check the thread for details and get your vote in! Good luck to the participants!

Also a reminder that the 15th Official Tournament batches are on their last month of being open. (Closing date is May 31st.) Please consider submitting if you haven’t already!

The 2 veteran files we have for you today are:

Arranging Matches
Musician: Teetow
Step Artist: M0nkeyz
Song Length: 1:05
Difficulty: 65

Mike French Hardcore Custom
Musician: m1n1on133
Step Artist: mi40
Song Length: 1:13
Difficulty: 94

For those of you that were around during the 2008/2009 era, Minami Ikebukuro Hardcore Custom (MIHC) was a stepchart known for its 32nd trills at 202 BPM in the middle section. Mike French Hardcore Custom was a parody of that track, providing a shorter version without the jumpstream that MIHC had. This is mi40′s take on Mike French Hardcore Custom without the 32nd trills.

Formed in 2009, Sleeping with Sirens — featuring vocalist Kellin Quinn, guitarists Jack Fowler and Jesse Lawson, bassist Justin Hills, and drummer Gabe Barham — quickly caught the attention of metalcore label Rise Records, which signed them and released their debut record, With Ears to See, And Eyes to Hear, in 2010.”

Excerpt from a Sept, 2021 interview at Tiny Waves:

“Growing up, my father was always into electronic and rock music, and as I began to explore my own tastes in genres, music became a way for us to bond. Music has since become a huge part of my life. It lets me express myself and my emotions without a need to explore deeper meaning – just pure, raw emotion that evokes images, visuals of the mind, that send a message through music. I used to draw while listening to music, so there’s always been a big audio-visual connection for me.”

Songs of the Week and Weekly Update 4/8/2022

Welcome to another Weekly Song Release in April! We hope you enjoyed the April Fools release. This Friday we’ll mainly be going into the specifics of some files that went through some changes over the last week, with a few reminders on some site features/events going on. We also have two new artists going in game!

Events
StepCon 2022 is almost through week one of two for the first stepping portion! For those that are participating, today is the last day that you can swap classes if you so choose. Remember that this can only be done once for both participants.

Season 3 began last Friday, so you should see a new badge on your profile to reflect the division you finished in for season 2. (Only if you filled out your seasonal top 50!)

Difficulty Consultants
With a new season starting, there were a ton of songs with adjusted difficulties. Some of these were the result of the ongoing project of converting files from frame-based timing to ms timing. You can find a detailed list on difficulty changes here. Normally we’d list everything out in this post for your convenience, but there were over 40 files changed this time!

Regarding ms timing changes, you can find the information on which files have been converted by checking out the spreadsheet here.

The 2 veteran files we have for you today are:

Cybernaut 2 Opening Theme
Musician: Roy Berardo
Step Artist: gold stinger
Song Length: 1:25
Difficulty: 66

Taken from Roy Berardo’s website:

“Since the start, Berardo has always had a love for music and a creative mind. When his parents brought home an upright piano when Berardo was at the age of three, Berardo would spend hours sitting and playing. A few years later, he started piano lessons focused in classical and later in jazz. Whenever young Berardo sat at the piano, he would get distracted from what’s on the page by his own thoughts and improvisations. Starting from the first sounds on his old upright and continuing to today, Berardo has always had a desire to tell great stories through his art. He has always worked to innovate and deliver music that stands out and drives in emotion.

Roy Berardo is an award-winning composer who works on countless projects including animations, video games, films, and interactive experiences.”
